Default Tranny pump on a TC replacement?

Has anyone else had their tranny pump replaced or removed and inspected when they had their torque converter replaced? How many miles do you have on your truck since this occurred? Thanks!

FYI -

If your converter is being replaced for the noise issue, you do not need to replace (or inspect) the pump. Noisy converters do not generate debris that will harm the pump. Removing the pump can put you at risk for mispositioned thrust bearings in the input clutch assy (a fairly common screw-up when pulling the pump by itself), and that will cause a complete trans failure if it happens. So my recommendation would be to leave the pump alone, unless you have line pressure problems or torque converter clutch (TCC) engagement problems.

Default Tc and front pump

had mine replaced at 1200 miles because of the noise they replaced the front pump because of morning sickness it wouldn't move for 5 or 6 seconds. both problems were resolved and i now have 3000 miles on it and no problems.

Had my TC replaced 8000 miles ago. They left the pump alone. No catastrophic failure YET.

It's a shame that this whole torque converter issue is a topic on this forum. I have owned 3 other new Dodge trucks in the last 20 yrs. with never a major drive line component issue. You would think that with today's technology something like this would never come about. Yep, this is my 4th new Dodge truck in 20 yrs. and it will be my last. I will visit my local Chevy or Ford store for my next truck.

Mine was removed and inspected for debris as per the Tech Hotline at Chrysler, A byddy of mine had his replaced as they found debris inside it. There are so many different stories from so many different people and dealerships im not sure who to believe anymore my dealership just replaced a torque convertor on a 2012 Ram for this noise and guess what when they chaged it the noise went away

TransEngineer- You had posted this info on the TC converter poll thread. But it was too late for me as they had already done the pump replacement when I read your thread on the input clutch thrust bearing. So now I am wondering who has had the TC replaced, and in the replacement, how many people had their pump removed and inspected or replaced, and how many miles they have on their truck since and if there have been any tranny related issues. I guess I am looking to see if there have been problems related to the mis-position of the said bearing. I have to take my truck on a trip soon and am a little leary of the tranny now. Looking for some positive reinforcement, if you will.

BigAl- No issues then with the tranny for 3000 miles? And the pump was replaced? Thanks! That is reassuring for me!!

Mineral Ram- How many miles have you put on the truck since the pump removal and inspection?

Has any one else had their pump removed for inspection or replaced? And if so, any issues since then? And finally, how many miles since the service? I know Trans Engineer said in another post that if the bearing is out of place, that you may have an issue somewhere between 300 and 600 miles. Thanks all for your input!!

Its too bad these manufactuer`s use second rate vendors to build junk parts,
kinda like ZF building all these junk rearends for dodge too.

I was visting the chevy & ford forums yesterday, they`re having big issues as well.
When we stop buying all these junks they make today, maybe they`ll wise up and build better quality stuff again. But not until all the greed stops within the manufactuer.

Agree. Bring these jobs back to North America. Yeah, maybe cost a little bit more per part, but when quality goes on the road, sales go up. To me, a very simple business concept.

At 6000 miles the underside of my truck was covered in transmission fluid leaking from the front trans seal. They replaced the TC, pump and cleaned and inspected the valve body and proceed to underfill the transmission by 4 quarts and sent me on my way. At 7000 miles I got a brand new trans and have been problem free, other than all the exhaust clamps and bolts were left loose.
