The evic in my 09 does not have a fuel saver light or anyother form of telling when I am on 4 cylinders. I have never noticed any change in sound, power, or the shutter some have talked about. I have always wondered if it is working or not. The best milage I can get is about 17.5 mpg. I bought the truck new in 09. If the MDS does not work would in through a check engine light?

mine is the same way. its an 09. I'm the second owner. Use to get great mileage until i did a few bolt ons....now the best for me is like 16.5-17.4 if I'm lucky. No sign if its working or not. Dont hear it in the exhuast either. I'm pretty automotive savy. I do hear something like its going into lockup (which i think is more of a chevy thing) so maybe thats it? But my gas mileage still sucks....lol

I have an 09 4x4 1500 that I recently bought used. I have never seen any ECO or fuel saver light on the dash. My EVIC doesn't have that info either. I average around 13-14 mpg around town according to the EVIC and perhaps 15-16 on the highway. Am I missing something? My truck was built in October 08 according to the VIN door sticker. If its an early 09 model without the ECO or MDS system active, would a flash at the dealer change that?

Your EVIC just may not be set up to display the "Fuel Saver" mode.

When in Park, scroll down to the Setup menu, which is the last one. You can only access this menu when in Park. Once in the menu (enter it by pushing the right arrow), you will be able to modify a whole bunch of features. Scroll down to Display Fuel Saver, push the right arrow again, and there should be a check mark next to it. Push the left arrow to back out of the menus, and you're done.

Hope this helps.

The light does tell you when it's on, but the truck does become more quiet and I can feel mine kick down. It runs at a much lower rpm.
