For the 3rd gens, I would get the black magic 183 fan kit....way better than the stock V-6 fan!

I can't comment for Timmy, but I took my mechanical fan off this past weekend on my 4.7L and overall can't say I noticed a huge difference in acceleration, but I did notice that at very light, part throttle the truck responds better, and my city mpg has slightly improved.

Ya I believe the intent of this thread/mod was to let people know that you can swap the stock v8 (4.7L or 5.7L) electric fan/large shroud/mechanical fan for the stock v6 electic fan/shroud and save a ton of space. There also may be a difference in cooling abilities but I don't think anyone has come to a conclusion on that yet...

It helps the motor spin a tiny bit faster, but it's not anything crazy. I will probably put it back on when it warms up, but for now it is great!

I did this last week. I didn't expect any major differences, but I like to know I am not spinning a mechanical fan 24/7 when it isn't even needed. I think calling it a V-6 fan makes it sound weak, but it is not. When it kicks on it moves a LOT of air. It will have to be summer to know if it is up to the job.

Just FYI you don't have to do this mod to delete the mechanical fan.

I wish I knew a way to measure the cfm of both fans...

Supposedly it will only come on at 222 deg F (according to superchips) and with the AC compressor. This serves basically as a back up for severe overheating protection. We are using our diablo's and superchip's to adjust the temperature down.
