In today's world with everything electronics, why only 1 12v plug on top of the dash (which means anything plugged in there leaves the wire hanging down over the screen).

Is there a "hidden" plug somewhere I can't find ?? (2022 3500 dually)

My 2020 only has one 12v outlet. It's in the cubby on top of the dash. A terrible design!
The only advantage for me was to power my two wireless phone mounts.

It really makes you wonder what the guys are thinking who designed these trucks. My 2006 ram Dooley Cummins actually had two in the dash in a pretty good spot. Our other ram mega cab from 2006 hemi has the same design. And the center seat boxes between the seats are huge and will hold a tremendous amount of all that junk we all bring with us. Our new 2014 Limited mega cab Dooley Cummins has one 12 V outlet in the front. Who decided that outlet should be in the main box where I put all my junk like a water jug and such. So I pulled that consul apart and drilled three more holes on the sides of the consul. I believe it was a 7/8 inch hole saw. Got out the soldering gun and some wire an additional 3 -12 V cigarette lighter outlets and easily installed them and wire them in. Now they are on the sides of the consul and I keep a awesome 12 V digital gauge there so I can constantly motor my battery power even when the truck is locked and I’m outside. there is a USB adapter inside the center consul storage box to plug a phone in but that is also pretty obnoxious to have to hook into. There is that 12 V outlet for the rear seat passengers where I plug in my ARB fridge. As I said on the earlier post looking for advice that ARB fridge will fit front to rear length wise in the mega cab but not the crew cab because of the space. Love the fridge and the drinks are always cold while camping. My issue now is to add an additional 12 V outlet below the backseat along with 110 outlet below the backseat to keep that refer plugged into when I am docked at home. I’m looking for a way to drill through the rear floor to run these wires from underneath the vehicle . That is my question on a new post I just put up. Where do I drill that hole. I see a plastic plug underneath the rear floor but it looks like if I drill through at that point I will be driving right through the seat bracket. That is my best choice so far . I don’t want to run these extra wires through the firewall and underneath all that carpet front or rear. So in summary you can put these 12 V outlets wherever you want and whatever you find convenient. I recently changed my hook up from the main cigarette lighter spot and I use power directly from the battery . Through an extra 20 amp fuse of course. That way I have power continuously even when the truck is shut off. I now have three additional batteries hanging off my front bumper on a motorcycle rack which I hook into one at a time when my main batteries get down to 12.2 V . Having many additional batteries on this vehicle will benefit us in many ways. We can power our accessories for days at a time. We can also grab one of these batteries off the truck from an easily accessible rock and power up our aluminum boat trolling motor. These batteries will charge when we are rolling down the road . One device which is $25 now and I bought many online is a 12 V digital voltage read out which plugs into the cigarette lighter. We can see this from outside our truck when is parked, we can keep constant eye on our voltage any time just by walking by the truck and looking in the window . One reminder when you’re hooking up any additional circuits into your truck from the main battery voltage be sure to buy that five dollar fuse block and put that very close to your battery. That will keep your truck from catching on fire if that supply wire is ever pinched somewhere on its run

Got to love the penny pinching car designers do on things like 12v outlets.

My 2012 Ram Laramie has three outlets. One in the center console cubby close to the dash, another one top compartment of the flip up center console storage, and a third in the back of the center console for the rear seat area.
