Sucks to read this. I actually joined this forum because i was thinking about buying a 2011 crew cab, but after reading the horror stories, i am not sure i want to take the chance. I see everyone taking it to the dealer for repairs, any videos on what is involved to do this in the driveway?

If you are seriously considering a 2011, I suggest having a tech pull the valve covers and check tolerances before finalizing purchase. It’s well under 1% of 5.7 Eagle Hemis sold that year in the big picture. If they give you any difficulty, show them this thread.

Yea, i suppose i could. I have thought about going to my local mechanic, and ask him what he would charge to replace the cam and lifters anyway, if i decide to purchase. Depending on how much he quotes, i was thinking of it as a "insurance policy". The prices i have seen were for dealer prices, anyone have a local shop, or a mechanic friend do it on the side?

My 2012 Ram 1500 SLT w/ the Hemi went 125K before the lifters/cam went bad. Seems to have been close to the same scenario as OP (camelot). Was told by the dealer's maint dept that it was typical of long idle times similar to what they have seen w/ the law enforcement vehicles they service. $4600 repair bill for that fix. Seems like a class action suit would be in order for failures of this sort. I travel in sales so I spend considerable time setting on the phone idling. Got a 2014 Laramie loaded just a couple of weeks ago w/ 24K actual miles still had original tires on it. I'm hoping that the problems has been resolved by 2014 but who knows.

In talking to Dealer, they do not see this issue on Jeeps and Chryslers ... strange ...
