Thanks for the replies gentlemen. A new one is not going to happen, no way I'm spending the money on that. I really don't need a 2500, its just more of a want. I just figure if If I'm going to change trucks to get a little more capability and the 6.5 bed I may as well go to an HD. My truck is only a weekend driver, gets maybe 5k miles a year put on it.

I found a used 14 2500 crew cab tradesman with the 6.4 and 71k miles on it. Has everything I want, back up camera, trailer brake controller, etc. its a fresh trade at a dealer about 1.5 hours away from me. I'm going to check it out next wednesday after it goes through it's mechanical inspection

Would that be a Cummings or a Cummins diesel?

Here is a page from the Ram build site on the power wagon that shows the standard engine is the 6.4 with MDS.

I have looked and can't find the 5.7 for the 2500 so I must have been on the 6.4 engine when I saw the MDS. But every model I look at with the 6.4 shows the MDS system on it.

Yes, the 6.4 in heavy duties always has MDS, but the 5.7 never has. That's been a 1500 only thing

I looked all over and can not find a 5.7 option for the 2500, only the 6.4 and the Cummins diesel.

IIRC 2017 was the last year it was an option, now the 6.4 is the only gas option for the HDs, but OP said he was looking at used. From 2004-2013 the 5.7 was the only gas engine option for the HD trucks

Thanks. So basically there is no Dodge Ram that does not come with the MDS unless you get a diesel.

For new models yes; even the chassis cab trucks with the 6.4 Hemi and Aisin transmission have MDS. You can put it in "PTO mode" (the ASC69RC transmission has a power take off) and the engine will drive the PTO off of 4 cylinders.

But the OP mentioned looking at used trucks.
