Default Exhaust/Engine noise

has anyone successfully eliminated the engine/exhaust manifold noise the engine makes when accelerating? it doesn't have an exhaust tick nor a cracked manifold. i'm talking about putting the window down and hearing the noise the engine makes as you accelerate. kinda of annoying passing car close by and that sound bounces off of them. does headers or re-configuring the exhaust help?

YA well mine went in for what I thought exhaust leak and ends up getting 2 recalls done and needing right side lifters changed which is the ticking/knocking sound. The truck only has 27,000 miles which I think is not good. Also shouldn't they do both sides???

sorry i can't send pm's yet i haven't post the minimum 50 posts. so here's the message i was going to send you.

i'm not sure you can really help me. i took my truck to my local chrysler dealership a few weeks ago for the noise and burning coolant smell. they couldn't find anything unusual with the noise. charged me a $100 and said the ticking noise is normal and all of their new trucks on the lot make the same noise and i've only got 51k miles on the truck. seems kinda odd that a noise like that is normal. i suspect it's a mechanical issue or a design flaw with the exhaust manifold because i can't hear any exhaust leaks with my stethoscope near the manifolds but when i put a probe on the manifolds or directly on the y-pipe after the manifold i can hear the ticking. it does it engine hot, cold, and varies with rpm.

the coolant leaks ended up being a water pump which they took care of but they also said i have a small leak in the radiator which i opted to not have them fix at $650. i can do the repair myself for that kind of money.

anyways i'm looking to see if headers or i've read that grand cherokee srt8 manifolds can be configured to a 6.4 ram. unfortunately no in the aftermarket world makes shorty headers and probably never will. i found a company that would be willing to make a custom set if i could ever get to north carolina.

I'd like to get the noise fixed but would like to take it to a dealership that's not going to charge me $100 again to say it's normal. There are a few other Chrysler dealerships in my area i could visit.
I can't send pm's yet. Please email me at:

On how you'd like me to handle this while keeping you involved in resolving my issue.

SO I put 10,000 miles on now up to 37,000 since they replaced right side lifters and guess what tick is back and might even be worse. I plan on seeing what the dealer will do and is there a fix???

Could the tick you hear be the EGR Valve?..... They seem to tick especially when the engine is cold.
