Default How do I fix this paint damage?

So I bought my truck with some paint damage on the hood not thinking much of it. I just figured it would be easy enough to sand down and reapply, but now that I've had time to study it, the "scratches" are much deeper than I anticipated. From all of you pros out there, how do I go about fixing damage this deep? I'm not looking for a factory finish, but I would like it to be kinda close.

get the hood off, bring it to a cheap painter- maco, for example- and let them paint the hood. Only way. at maco, it should not cost more than $100.00

They usually paint hoods off of the vehicle
They sand it, primer it, spray it with a couple of coats of paint & clear coat it
You just need the top done
I had both sides done

Base coat

One of the finish coats

this is certainly possible as a DIY,
but first I would call around some body shops for an estimate,
tell them you will bring the hood to them off the truck, and that you're looking for a 90% (or whatever) job - not a 99%
if you can get it done for <$125-150 then have them do it..

otherwise YouTube ..

Wow! I guess I didn't realize that it could be done so cheap. I thought they'd charge around $800 for something like this... you know, just because they can.

Thanks for the help!

well I should caveat that:
of course, prices for materials and labor do vary widely,
and can be MUCH more in dense urban areas like L.A. and NYC ...

I live in a 'rural' area so prices for labor tend to be less..

so, call around .. let us know !

A repaint will be required for that hood. It's past the point of wet sanding and/or polishing to remove those scratches as they're down through to the primer.

As the other guys said, get some quotes from shops and see what it will cost. Around here you'd never get that done for anywhere close to $100. I'd guess $500 plus for sure but that's why it's good to ask around and see what costs are in your local area.
