In our small town (20K) we have the privilege of hosting four WW2 planes, B17, B24 B25 and a P51 about every other year. They come in for a couple of days and offer rides and tours. A great way to spend the day. Our house in on the glide slope to the airport so we get to see a lot of them if we are not there. One of these days I'm going to pony up the 2 grand for a P51 ride.

You should. I've been lucky enough to spend some time in a few airplanes without having to pay anything. I've ridden in "Yellow Rose," the Commemorative Air Forces B25 and the nose gunner seat is the best in the house. I've been in a Corsair and a P51, along with doing some formation aerobatics in a T6. I also got to ride with a Top Gun instructor in the British Provost Strikemaster and that's was an awesome ride. We did a lot of fun stuff.

Here are some pictures I took from the Corsair and P51. The B25, T6, and Strikemaster were all before we carried cameras in our pockets.

I live just 8 miles from Miramar Naval Air Station, which is now Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where Top Gun was filmed
Every once in a while, one or two of the planes violate the Gillespie Field air space
Gillespie Field is a county-owned public towered airport 11.5 miles northeast of downtown San Diego, in El Cajon, San Diego County, California,

These are pictures that are mostly taken at Gillespie Field
These planes fly right over my place as they make the turn for the Final Approach to land, it get noisy at times

We can take the boat down pretty close to MacDill Air Force Base (CENTCOM) in Tampa, being very very careful to avoid Coastal Restricted Areas, and have seen some pretty cool planes coming and going, especially during the yearly air show. Sorry no pics though, still a cool experience.

I've been waiting for my two favorite WW2 planes to show up. P-38 Lightning and the Mosquito.
