Default First decent trip with the Hemi

Road trip over the weekend:
Waterloo, ON - Cleveland (west of) - Waterloo, ON via Buffalo, NY on I90.
Lots of cops handing out tickets, kept it 2mph over the posted limit.
Lots of heavy traffic at the border and on QEW, stop and go in Ohio in construction zones. Some local driving Saturday, all city.
On the way back I had a tonneau cover and 5" running boards.
Averaged 22.4mpg (10.5l/100km) on the way there and 23.2mpg (10.1l/100km) on the way back. Lots of rain coming back.
Hemi, 4x4, crew, 20" wheels, 3.21 gears, 2 people and some gear in the truck, 87 gas, 32gal tank shows 1156km to empty (718 miles)
~1500 miles (~2400km) on her so I expect this to improve a bit in the next few months. I have to admit it is better than expected. There is a small difference overall between the V6 and the V8, however, for me, it is rather negligible as we drive a lot of highway and country side.
I cant tell if and when the MDS kicks in.

Sounds good to me; in stock trim the hemi Ram gets respectable gas mileage. It's keeping it that way that's tough.

That is pretty good mileage for a pickup truck & i hope that you filled that 32 gallon tank on the US side of the Border

Sitting in traffic while crossing the Border can go slow or fairly quickly i have discovered

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Off Topic;

In the past i have crossed several times at the Peace Bridge
I have been delayed 2 times while entering Canada, once at the old building, they were stopping anyone that had long hair & beards, they searched my body & emptied & x-rayed the whole trucks contents.
The other time at the new buildings, i had several cartons of cigarettes, i had forgotten about Customs, they let me continue into Canada without charging me a tariff. I had to sign several forms

Peace Bridge – Buffalo / Fort Erie – U.S. Baird Drive / Canadian Queen Elizabeth Way

One time i missed the turn to the Peace Bridge while returning to the US & crossed at the
Rainbow Bridge – Niagara Falls – Niagara Street / Roberts Street, ON 420
The pedestrian traffic holds up the vehicle traffic, because there is so much of it

I once crossed this bridge on a Friday around noon, big mistake !!
Blue Water Bridge – Port Huron / Sarnia (Point Edward) – U.S. Interstate 69 and 94 / Canadian ON 402

That's pretty good; I drove to Oklahoma City on Saturday for a wedding and came back Sunday. There were not many cops so I only got about 16.5 MPG though lol

That's good gas mileage- and seems like you used the cruise control and let the electronic do the rest- I do this every day to and back from work- I usually get around 21mpg average and I'm pretty happy with it.

Yea, the I90 was pretty good and I cruise controlled most of it, just enjoying the scenery and the music, makes the time go by easier.
Gas was cheap west of Cleveland, I filled up with $2.25/gal (usd) - and them I filled up again in Canada on Highway 6, all translated to 3.09/gal (usd).
I had my Hemi before in my '12 with the 6 speed and that thing was thirsty, especially me driving stop and go traffic every day. The new hemi+8 speed is a thing of beauty. I am literally less than 1 mpg from my buddy's Kia van.

As for the border crossing, we have Nexus, we don't really spend time at the border. Never ever go via Rainbow bridge on a weekend, it's simply chaos. When it is really busy, we go Whirpool Bridge, it is Nexus only, there is zero traffic.

nice numbers !

look ! it *can* be done !!

you probably know -
the tonneau and running boards will improve aero and should gain a little bit of fuel economy.

also - the rain will hurt FE , so you could pick up some more there..

Heck, I'm happy with my big HEMI 6.4L @ 18mpg hwy unloaded and 12-14mpg hwy loaded. The extra gas doesn't cost nearly as much as the diesel option for a part-time tower.
