Oh sure, it's possible to get used to anything pretty much, but given my druthers I prefer a shifter that can inform me what gear or mode the transmission is in without having to use my eyes to look at, or for, a knob, or look at some light on the dash someplace. With a column shifter you can tell what's what simply by the position of the shift lever. No need to look at anything.
Actually, it took me a while to be sure I was turning the heater fan control knob and not the transfer case control knob without taking my eyes off the road when I first started driving this RAM. They are closely adjacent to each other and there really isn't much tactile difference between them at all, which is clearly a design flaw in my opinion.

For my money, the easier it is to operate controls without taking my eyes off the road, the more I think they're examples of good design, and the more I prefer them.

Going from a 1500 with the knob to a 3500 with the shifter - I miss the knob...

It will take me some time to train my hand to not hit the shifter every time I need to reach the center console, lol.

Plus, it's much easier to use the gear limiter when it's on the steering wheel than on the shifter...

I have to agree with you I miss my column shifter over the knob but it’s a functionality issue. There are times when say your using your truck to work and say pull a fence post out of the ground or say make a small adjustment when backing up that it’s good to have a reference point to stop for instance if you remove your tailgate and have to connect to a 5th wheel and don’t have the stoplight camera you can open the door back up slowly and look at a spot on the ground to fine tune where your going. I hate the fact if you open your door it will automatically slam the car in park regardless of momentum. The other thing I miss is the ability to leave the accessories on the vehicle without having to walk back to it every 15 min to turn it back on if day your someplace outdoors working on your house or throwing a party what ever the reason is and the radio shuts off and you have to walk over and press the button again.

I went from a Ford buckets and console to a Ram bench. I can tell you if it were knob over column shift I'd go knob every time with the bench. But in a console truck being able to lean a little on the console and grab on to that shifter is something to be missed.
However, the knob allows for some truly innovative safety features. The auto park is one I like.

I'm curious if the Company will hear the complains and put in a column shifter for the 8-speed transmission in future years. It's basically a paradigm shift away from what we've been doing for over 50 years. Every Automatic Dodge I've owned was a column shifter.

Well maybe if you had owned them for over 60 years you'd have had one with a push button

Lolz. Push Button Autos! They are making a comeback in some other manufacturers like Acura. Maybe Dodge would have been better to put it in as a push button auto and received more positive feedback.

I'm really curious to know what it will be like to try and rock a stock vehicle out. That was a handy winter skill with the big column shifter. Will it be the same with the small little knob...I dunno...

Since it's just an electronic transmission interface, I can't believe some after-market company hasn't come-up with a bolt-on, plug in console shifter to take the place of the knob. There's a massive gaping hole in the console where a shifter should be, so designing a drop-in for that hole should be a slam dunk. Unplug the wires from the Knob and plug into the real shifter, and away you go. Maybe convert the shifter knob to a UConnect volume knob that goes from 0-to 10 (or 11), instead of 38.
