I had the dealer do a computer flash because of a tech bulletin on my 2014 and after that I got a surprise, first thinking there was something wrong with my truck and I called the dealer to see what was going on. Then I found out that when they did the upgrade they activated the Auto Park feature on the 8 speed because of some complaints that the truck would roll when put into park. Which was only the problem on the 6 speed but FCA wanted to make sure it didn't happen on the 8 speed, that's according to my dealer. What I was doing is backing my truck up to hook up my travel trailer, normally I would just get close to the tongue to allow me to lower the tongue on the ball, if not close enough I would let the truck idle and put it in reverse, open the door and watch on the ground to see how far it moved. To my surprise, when I opened the door the truck went into Park but did not indicate it and the shifter indicator lights would flash. I gave it a little gas to see if it moved, but it wouldn't so I thought something was wrong. That's when I called the dealer only to find out, if you open the door, it shifts into Park. All I had to do was close the door and move it back into gear and it moved.

Yes check if the drivers door was open, if I have my drivers door open in my 2014 express and try to move the truck, the light flashes and I have to close the door put it in park and start over. I don't remember this happening when I first got the truck, but I'm not 100%, and wondering if it started after one of the last few recalls.

Twice since I got the truck new in 2014 I have shut off the truck and tried to get out without turning the shifter dial to park. Both times I was in a hurry and distracted....so the new Auto Park activation recall was a good thing

I dont know what it is with the dial shift that makes you forget about it... never did that in the classic column shifter trucks I've had

I specifically told my Service Writer not to do that particular transmission recall on my 2016

Everytime i park at my place, i have to open my door to see exactly where my door post is in relation to a seam in the concrete.
I have less than 3" of variance front & rear

I have not taken my truck back to the dealer since that recall came out because I was afraid they would do it whether or not I wanted it or not which I DON"T. I hate all these nannies. I'm no more likely to forget putting the knob in park than a honking column shifter. Nobody ever complained that those should automatically go into park if you opened the door.

I still say there should be some class action suit for that. I didn't buy my truck like that and didn't ask for them to do it they did the recall on the own when I took it in for broken header bolts on my 17 cc 4x4. I fussed and raised hell and threatened to park it in the showroom floor and they still said they're nothing we can do to take it off. If my wife would let me I'd get rid of it got that one issue. Its utter bs. Best thing you can do is buy a seatbelt extender, the truck never knows your unbuckled and therefore won't put it in autopark.
