On my 03 2WD 1500, I went over 185K miles Monday, and had smoke coming from the left front wheel well when I got to work. I went to Sears auto after work and they said my left calpher was rubbing on the break disc due to the wear, yes they were getting thin.
They also said my ball joints were shot, which I knew was going to be a problem soon since th boot had rotted away.
I had them replace the wishbone and upper ball, lower ball, rotor, calpher and break pads on both sides of the front, and the rotors and pads on the rear.
Wednesday, yesterday, it started knocking when turned left and braking to a stop, good example would be pulling into a parking spot, very low speed, one hard knock that you feel - then the knock repeats when you put it in reverse and back out of the parking spot.
Took it to Sears and they cannot find anything wrong,
put it on the jack when I got home, pulled the tire and attempted to check all the bolts and mounting for tightness etc. and could not find anything loose.
looking for suggestions as to what to look for, as I am taking it back to Sears auto again tonight and parking it in the entry to their work bay :box: and telling them to fix it.

Sounds like a caliper piston is hung up or in cattywonkered. I would definitely take it back, duplicate the knocking, and ask them, politely, yet firmly, to fix it.
