Hi guys i have had my 1500 ram for about half a year now and i have tested the manual shift mode when test driving before purchase and couple of other times after i purchased and it was working fine. a few weeks ago i was driving up a steep grade gravel road and wanted to use the manual mode but it would not do anything. I also tried after that several times and still wont work in manual shift mode. Has any one had this issue before?
thanks.

I bought it used with 50,000 through Walser and it came witht the lifetime powertrain warranty and believe the dodge ram warranty also just covers powertrain. I will have to call and see if that would fall under that warranty i guess.

I didn't think the ram's had a manual shift. Just a way of limiting the highest gear can be. Maybe Im wrong?
You're correct, it's technically not a "manual shift" (what we typically call AutoStick, where you can manually shift the trans up and down). Electronic Range Select (ERS) only allows you to limit the maximum available gear. So it will allow you to manually DOWNshift the trans, but you can't force an early UPshift (before the trans would normally shift). If you have it tapped down into a lower gear, you can manually upshift it back to its "normal" gear (at that speed and throttle), but not beyond that.

I did not. Even had the service tech flash my transmission and it didn't help. It quit working when I replaced the transmission. I changed it myself. Sorry I couldn't help.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but did you figure anything out since then? I did the same thing and so did another guy on the forums recently. Same issue. Truck is at the dealer right now and same as you, the reflash didn't fix it. Really a bummer too because I would use my ERS a lot to downshift coming off the highway or lockout MDS.

Makes no sense. If you order a new valvebody (which has the TCM and all the electrical components for the trans) it's the same part number for a 2013 through 2017. The dealership is at a loss as well.

Any luck? I as well just replaced my 8 speed. Run and shifts fine however I can not use the manual buttons to downshift or bring it back up and the tow/haul doesn't work.... Just curious if anyone has figured it out.
