ok so I finally got around to pulling my old 1st gen out of storage and trying to get it running after a few months of it being in storage, and when I had it in storage i had the filler neck off it for the fact that the hose was leaky and I didnt get a chance to put it back on, but I did cover up the hole on the tank and when I went to get it started yesterday I put new gas in it and cycled it through and it wouldnt start! I then poured a little gas into the intake and she fired right up for a second then died out again, I dont know if i cooked my fuel pump or if I have a fuel leak somewhere because i did notice a small puddle of something under the truck on the passenger side and my buddy said it might be a fuel leak, it was also brutally cold so that may of had something to do with it, but if its not could it be the fuel pump or am I overlooking something stupid like a dry rotted line ? im somewhat stumped

I'm guessing you have EFI with throttle body? If you don't have check eng light when you cycle key you will have to unhook battery to do a forced rest. Then light will pop on and truck will start. Bad part computer is toast and forced reset works so long. If you do have light start with pump fuse and work way forward. Good luck let us know how it goes.

Sounds like the fuel pump is toast. Since the signal is getting through and it'll start and run on the available fuel, I'd plan on a fuel pump. The puddle? Well, you need to watch for that and actually check it. What does it smell like? You could have a dry-rotted line, or just a small leak that has since closed off since it's wet again. If you had a healthy pump, the continuous output would produce an obvious pool of fuel and not enough would get to the engine. A small leak would make a small puddle, but you'd still have enough fuel to run the engine. So, while replacing the pump, replace the rubber parts of the fuel lines, and the external filter as well. Yes, while there's a screen on the pump, the early trucks also have an external filter tucked under the frame. Those hoses could be leaking.

Ok well when I climbed under the truck today I didnt hear the pump kicking on and I didnt get any reading from the pressure gauge I have Installed near the regulator, Now Ramfam you said to check the fuel pump fuse, where would that be ?, I checked the relay under the hood and its fine, is there another fuse under the dash somewhere ? and im probably going to get a new fuel pump thursday If everything else checks out tomorrow, and I did find out what the puddle was from it was from my buddy spilling gas on the ground but as a good measure I did change the rubber lines just as a safety measure now is there anything else i should check before I go and drop the tank and change the pump out ?

If you're getting fire and it runs when you dribble gas into the TB, the circuits are good for the pump. If there was a bad circuit/blown relay, the computer would shut down power to the system and it wouldn't run. It's the pump that's dead. Change that filter.
