There are ways to diagnose and repair without just throwing parts at something. You need to know which wheel speed sensor is malfunctioning. I don’t know about aftermarket scan tools but the dealer scan tool can see each sensor and what speed it is indicating. Tone wheels needs to not be damaged. Failed sensor? Which one? Three wheel or four wheel abs?

If we go all the way back to the start I pulled the calipher and was removing the spindle nut and put a puller on to remove it from the axle shaft I couldn't get the hub nuts loose to remove the hub so I reinstalled every thing at that point I pumped the brakes a few times to get the fluid back to the front driver side caliper after that I took it to a shop to have the brakes bled. On my over there every time I came to a stop the antilock sys would kick in and stopping was a little dangerous. They noticed it ran all kinds of tests and believed the driver side wheel sensor was the culprit and they checked and realized that sensor was unavailable. I left there with the we same problem I came with. Went to Dogde they informed me it was discontinued. I checked with all the aftermarket suppliers and some said over the pH that they had the hub with the sensor but I did not fit the 1997 1500 5.9L Dodge Sport That is my truck. They have hubs but my sensors aren't part of the hub they are mounted on the steering knuckle I have posted this picture to others on the site

After some digging i found this, This should be the part # you need to look for. Then you can cross it to an aftermarket part.

Put in my truck description and the site claims that part no longer available which is exactly what Dodge parts det said

I just called and all sources claim the part is discontinued and no aftermarket part available being born in "49" we got by without antilock I should be ok, drive responsible

I just called them direct they confirmed the part is discontinued and no aftermarket part like I said being 73 yrs old we did fine without abs

Yes I have a Haynes manual it's close to worthless, the real problem is the dealer claims the the wheel sensors are discontinued and I'm looking for solutions

I believe it's a four wheel abs sensor, I have a 1st gen Dodge it has only rwal system and this truck I'm working on is 2 gen Dodge has two on the front the one on the driver's side is suspect. Right after I pulled the hub and replaced it the abs failed and when I say it failed it was irratic it would kick into abs mode at the end of each braking session at about 2 miles per hour.

I recently purchased a 1997 Dodge ram 4x4 but I am having problems with the brake ABS system can't find wheel sensors and everything I do seems to get worse

Sensor is on the back axle housing, on top of it...That's where the main problem always was... I owned one, and I worked on them, in dealerships too.. Make sure that there's no metal particles in the diff oil.. That will trigger the light..
