I've got a 1999 Ram with the 318, I eventually will turn the truck into a drag truck, but for now it's stock and I have the money to build up an engine. I'm wondering if anyone has ANY suggestions for power. I'm pretty sure I want to switch it over to a carbureted set up, but I don't know if the engine will still run or run well if I ditch the factory setup. I'm also trying to keep it running pump gas. Just looking to get some power, keep it street legal, and on pump gas. I really need some wisdom on all of this as I am a converted and former chevy fan, so mopar is a brave new world to me.

A carb conversion is a lot easier in OBD II vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. However, if you're set on it, I'd go for the Hughes Engines/Edelbrock Performer RPM AirGap for MPI. It's a carb intake adapted for Magnum MPI. To go to carb, remove the injectors, plug the holes and bolt on the carb. At least, that's the intake part if it. There's more to it, but that particular intake would make it easy.

why? Theirs no performance benefit at all except being easier to do on a shoestring budget? with less knowledge needed. if you already have MP injection your going backwards...
You cant really convert a 99 and keep it street legal...
if you are gonna go that route its much better to just buy a carb manifold like the M1 and use that...otherwise performance will suck while using a converted kegger... too many obstacles and twists and turns for the fuel to stay atomized...

augiedogy beats me to it everytime.. want a drag trauk? why give up your FI set up? drag racing in about running the same time every time. FI is super consistant.. bullet proof.. and makes gobs of power when properly tuned.. money spent elsewhere.. exhaust.. tires .. wheels.. traction aids... suspension.. shocks... safety equipment.. the list goes on and on
