I bought my truck feb 1 2014 and on way home from purchase my truck got a vibration at 2000 rpms. it was cold then and went away as it got warm. but now it is cold and vibration is back. ram customer care did admit to me that they know of this problem but he told me over the summer when it was warm and vibration was not present. I was talking to him about a thunk in the steering wheel/gas pedal issue I had all summer, they never fixed that issue and I got the run around. does anyone know what fixes the 2000 rpm vibration?

Hi Dan,
i got your PM but for some reason it wont send my message back to you. Anyways... the 2,000 rpm vibration you feel is the typical hemi vibe. Some are better, some are worse. Yup, some people hate it because they dont understand what it is or what its about, or mostly, why it does it.

I`ve owned SEVERAL hemi trucks back to back since introduced in 2002, every single one i`ve owned does it. I`ve noticed that the MDS hemi is worse vs the older ones. The hemi engine has a lot of harmonic vibrations that is very normal for this engine, mainly due to its design... its not out of balance or anything of the sort, they just have a certain frequency they hit and they WILL vibrate. (some hit it around 2050rpm, some hit it around 2100rpm) Nothing to this day has been known to fix it either. At least not that i`m aware of anyway.

One way to look at it is, the more horsepower and engine puts out, the more its prone to vibration(s) in certain rpm`s and frequencies. And the harder the motor mount material is, the more the vibrations will find some place to go... yup, right into the cab, steering wheel, floor pans, pedals... it will take the least path of resistance. Remember when the intake manifolds were solid cast iron on the old V8 engines... the cast iron intake was a good vibe isolator. Today, the intakes on all V8 engines are plastic... not as good of a vibe isolator so to speak. The more lighter we make vehicle`s, the more prone they become to vibrate.

My brand new 2014 does it too, does it bother me, nahhhh, i know what it is and it dosent bother me anymore than any of the other hemi`s i`ve owned. I`ve put several thousands of miles on these hemi motors, not a lick of trouble, even had some noisy lifters in some, not had one come apart yet. I HAVE toyed around with rubber mounted ballist`s onto the steering column, all that did was push the vibes somewhere else. You`ll chase hemi vibes till the cows come, just nature of the beast.

I know you spoke of the lemon law, this is just my opinion, dont bother. Ther`s nothing really wrong with the truck as per the 2,000rpm vibration. Like i said, some do it worse than others. You also have the best warranty on the market, 5yr/100,00 mile coverage. She blows, you get a new motor free of charge.

If you Ram was built between 10/17/13 and 12/17/13 there is a bulletin from Ram to address a rear vibration between 50 and 75 mph, ( replace rear prop shaft ).

Sorry RB but for some reason I can't pull it up on my laptop now. Any Ram dealer can run a vin # and see if the technical service bulletin (16-001-14) applies to the symptoms and to the truck's build date.

Thanks brother... i`m headed to the dealer saturday, i`ll ask them to pull it up for me just for shits an giggles and see what it says and to see if my vin gets a hit on it. Likely no hit on mine, mine was built back in july 2014

The vibration is a design flaw and is caused by the motor and front differential sharing the same mounts on both sides of the motor. Vibrations from the motor merge with vibrations from the front differential and are transferred to the wheel/hub assemblies via the CV shafts. From there they are transferred thru the steering shaft into the floorboard, accelerator pedal, and steering wheel.
Start your truck, leave it in park, leave it idleing, crawl under and grab your CV shafts, they will both have an aggressive vibration even at an idle. Both shafts have a nasty vibration but the passenger side seems to be a tad worse on my truck.
If it does this at idle, image what happens at 2000 rpm. :4-angermax:
Edit: forgot to mention that on the back side of the differential there are 2 brackets, one mounted on top of the other, they are mounted from engine to diff and diff to transmission, they are rigid mounted with no vibration damper or rubber between the mounting points.
