Hey all,

Long time listener, first time caller:

I got a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 a few months ago. The dealership had it put on 35" tires with a 6" fabtech lift. Didn't know much about this kinda stuff when I bought it, but am now running into issues with re-gearing.

I've been told now by a few local places that in my truck, the front end gearing is welded to the carrier or something? (I'm not all that mechanically inclined... so I apologize if I'm using incorrect terminology here)

They've made the suggestion now to find a 2011 Ram 4x4 front end assembly at a junkyard, pull it, swap it into my truck, and then I could buy a normal gearing set since they haven't changed the rear at all.

1) Does this recommendation make sense?
2) Has anyone here done this already?
3) Are there any better options?

Thanks all,
Chris

I am wondering why the dealer would even do that if it doesn't work right. How would they warranty anything.

Yeah, well, they advertise themselves as the "Lifted Truck Specialists", buy used Rams, throw 6" lifts and 35" tires on them, and turn them around.

In the past, that might have worked because people had gearing options, but it seems after 2011, that all stopped...

What's the issue with it?

I hope it at least has 3.92 gears. If you do, with the 8-speed you should have plenty of power. I've got 3.92 gears in my 6,000 lb Longhorn with 34" BFG All-Terrains and have no power issues. If yours has 3.21, then 35" tires might be a bit much. There was a post a week or so ago from someone that just put 4.56 gears in their late model Ram. He said the front carrier was NOT welded. I don't know either way but try searching or looking around a bit. The post shouldn't be too hard to find.

Nope. The real issue is that it comes stock with 3.21......

I realize that. I was just saying that I would have expected the dealer to have used a 3.92 equipped Ram to put a 6" lift and heavy 35" tires on. Either that or re-gear it before selling it. The Ram dealer I bought mine from lifts a lot of their Rams and puts larger tires on them. I never bothered to check the gearing once I saw the price they charged for the work.

Ahhh, I see.

Well, this dealershit bought it from Enterprise, had Les Schwab throw the lift and tires on, and sold it. They didn't even know the gearing that was in it, I had to find that info myself...

Yeah, but when you add $9995 to the price of the truck for installing a 6" lift and 35" tires you would think they would make sure it is geared correctly. That's what my dealer charges for the lift and tires.

Is it a 6 speed? If its an 8 speed then it has more than enough gear for 35s
