I am looking to purchase a 2015 ram 1500 crew cab from a dealer and trying to get input on what I should be paying. Test drove a few today and narrowed it down to 2 that dealer had. They are not willing to budge that much on price and don't want to overpay. Both trucks were lease returns and sold at auction in MI to a dealer in PA. Here is the basic info on the 2 that I am interested in.

1. 2015 ram 1500 CC Big Horn, premium seats, 26z package, luxury package, rear camera w/ park sensors, 5.7 V8, 3.21 gears, heated seats, remote start, certified, 25,000 miles, 93 days on lot, dealer price listed online at $29,993.

2. 2015 ram 1500 CC Outdoorsman, premium seats, big horn plus package 26t, rear camera w/ park sensors, 5.7 V8, 3.92 gears, heated seats, remote start, certified, 23,000 miles, 40 days on lot, dealer price listed online at $29,994.

I am from NJ so will be paying 7% sales tax. Since these trucks were bought at auction I assume they are paying wholesale pricing, whatever that is, so I expect they have some room in the price. The person I dealt with say they are priced aggressively. I was hoping to be OTD between 29,500 and 30,000. They are at 32,000 OTD. Thanks for any advice.

The Trucks are apple to apples. So you just need to pick one and deal on it.

If you want 29500 OTD then tell them. But be certain you are ready to take delivery. Your request isn't unreasonable.

Walk up to the salesman look right at him and say politely: " I like the X one. I really never wanted to go over 28000 for a truck new or used, Just cant happen. However I've heard good things about this dealership and I cant help but like the X truck. If you can do 29500 OTD!!!! I will drive it off your lot today. Anything more is over stretching my budget and for the sake of my bank account I will need to hang my head and keep looking.

But do yourself a favor and be prepared to buy if your serious. Make them think you can go anywhere and buy a truck, your just choosing them because you really like the X one. If they feel your bluffing or going to ride the fence even after they meet your request they in turn WONT meet your request. In fact if they feel your not going to hold up your end of the deal anyway they will not deal. SHOOT STRAIGHT when you say " 29500, And I drive today!! OTD!!! Are you putting anything down? If so consider that in your opening offer. Ie.. I have 1000 cash and don't wish to finance NOT a penny more than 28500. This is my budget squeezed with a twist. any more and My shopping continues.
You just have to have your ducks in a row. I always tell people who are shopping. "If you don't say it then you should plan to pay it".

You have every right to put your best foot forward. and Hold your ground. You just have to be reasonable. And it sounds like you are at the price you would consider to pay! Now go get your truck. Either one looks like a good deal. IF YOU GET YOUR TERMS!

By the way, Where in NJ you from? Brother

Damn, this guys gettin me pumped up and its not even my truck!! Haha

He does have good advice. Ive done so much dealing, my dad and grandpa were the same way, and my cousin whos like a brother to me was a car salesman for many years until he got tired of it. So i have a good idea how it works as well

Only other advise i would give is DONT NOT THINK OUT LOUD, Pay very close attention to what your about to say, dont say well i could pay xxxx amount but u really dont want to, or i could put down xxx amount ect. Just stick to your numbers. They dont need to know allthe extra stuff that will come back to bite you when they try to take advantage of it. Find a good number. And stick with it!

The sales tax some of you guys have to pay on these vehicle purchases is insane! In South Carolina its $300 max no matter how much the truck costs.
You almost convinced me to move to SC, but the commute to WA would kind of negate that savings. :gy:

But...do you have a state income tax? I pay 8.1% sales tax on vehicles where I live, however there is no state income tax here.
