There is a little discussion out there on filters for the 6.4. What's everyone using? I'm trying to find out what the Mobil 1 filter is...the extended performance one. Any help is appreciated. I think it's the M1-113 but want to be sure.
According to Mobil's site the MO2222 is the filter for your application. The M1-113 uses the same thread which is a M22 x 1.5 but the M1-113 is .02 inches larger in diameter and about .29 inches longer. The M1-113 will mount to the engine but I have no idea if one has a built in check valve and the other doesn't or if one is required for your application. Without further research to verify the possible check valve concern, I think I would go with the MO2222 since that is what Mobil list for your application. The difference in the size between the two is really insignificant as far as capacity goes. There is a little discussion out there on filters for the 6.4. What's everyone using? Thanks. I see there are two options in the drop down for 6.4. If you use one, you get MO2222. If you use the other, you get M1-113. I'm betting it's the difference between the SRT and truck 6.4. I cross referenced the mopar number for the 6.4 truck engine and the M1-113 shows compatible. I don't see a compatible mopar number for the mo2222. {EDIT} After further research I found that both filters have anti-drain back features (check valve)
Here is a link to Mobil's application chart.

If you go to that link I posted, select your year and model of truck and for engine select V8 6.4L 392cid instead of V8 6.4L 6424cc, when you do a window will pop up and you will see MO2222 that is on the left and appears as a blue link. Click on that and you will see 3 tabs at the top, the middle one is called "Attributes", click on that one and you will see on the top line the vehicles that the filter can be used on.Thanks. Thanks again. I may just go with the Mopar brand filter. I ran a cross reference on the Mopar filter part number and come up with the M1-113 as well as various Napa and Wix filters I know fit. We shall see, my friend. I'm close...Fort Smith. I've got a camping trip planned the later part of the month and will be gone. Selling the CTD and replacing it with the 6.4 2500...gonna give the gasser a go and save a few bucks. I just can't justify the CTD anymore...never could really. It list the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep from 2007-2015 whereas the application chart for the M1-113 only list the Camaro and Corvette.
As previously mentioned the dimensions of the filters as far as fit are pretty much the same. As long as one of them isn't a reverse flow filter compared to the other one, they should both work. A reverse flow filter could cause major engine damage because the oil would be trying to go up against the back of the check valve preventing oil flow through the engine. It's an unlikely scenario but worth checking.
Myself, I have used Mobil synthetic oil for years with an OEM filter and gotten good service and long life out of my engines. I was using Mobil synthetic oil long before they started marketing their own filter. I think their filter is just another way to increase revenue. I'm not saying their filter is bad; it's probably inline with an OEM but I would have to question weather it's worth the extra expense. If you want to get really anal about clean oil go with an aftermarket centrifuge bypass oil filter setup. I had one on my Mack truck years ago that came as standard equipment. They have been used on military, industrial and commercial engines for a very long time. You can't get any better than a centrifuge setup. I'm not sure if you can get a kit for our application but since the Cummins engine is so popular, I would be surprised if someone didn't make a kit. Not sure if they make one for the 6.4 gasser that you're talking about, but I mentioned it because of your signature truck with the Cummins
After the first oil change I will be using Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5-40 in my truck. On the class 8 trucks with the centrifuge bypass oil filter setup Mobil recommended in the past, up to a 25,000 mile oil change interval. I'm not saying I would go that long on a Ram with a Cummins 6.7, but Mobil's recommendation shows their confidence in their product when being used with an excellent filtration setup.
{Edit} Here is a link to a company that makes a kit. They claim it will work on gas or diesel engines. This company is claiming up to 40,000 mile oil change intervals with test results to back it up.

What part of Arkansas are you in? My wife has family in the Bentonville area and we are going there at the end of the month.
I lived in Van Buren just before I moved back to Florida. Thanks again. I may just go with the Mopar brand filter.
