Had mine on a DynoJet chassis dyno today, and came away impressed.
It made 250hp and 263 for torque at our 4400ft altitude.
Mods to date are a custom knife edged and ported throttle body
Intake manifold inlet ported to match throttle body
Magnaflow Catback dual exhuast (wrapped from cats back to mid pipe with header wrap to keep some heat in the system to help generate some lost torque from the dual exhuast)
Airraid CAI modified with a clear top cover (AKA S&B style cover) fed with a 3" ram air tube to the front bumper
Diablo T-1000 Trinity (my on-going nightmare) running the 93 octane tune
180F Jet Thermostat
Stock tranny thermostat has been removed, tranny now runs between 160 and 165F
285/60/17 rear tires.
Redline snythetic oil in motor and rear diff
Have to admit i was impressed, even the dyno guys who'd never ran a 4.7 Ram before said it was pretty impressive for 287 cubes
It might be a touch lean as it ran between 12.8 and 13.00 on A/F,but not enough to ever worry about.
The Diablo tuner has been nothing but a nightmare, but it does make power.
If the damn thing wasn't such a nightmare to get installed and sorta working right,i'd be reconmending the Trinity, but as it stands,if you're buying a Diablo tuner,i'd go for the Intune.
My Trinity still has issues with turning my dash lights and gauges on and off if you don't unplug it.

Wow that is pretty good for the 4.7L. Higher than I'd expect. Honestly man, if you can ever get a SC I'd go for it. You'll gain some power over the diablo (canned tune vs canned tune).

That's my preferance too Sean.
If or when Superchips comes out with their tuner,i'll be springing for one.
Considering that's uncorrected at 4400ft,i was impressed.
I put it on the dyno, thinking if it made 220 at the tires i'd be happy,i started smiling when it ran to back to back pulls and both were slightly over 250hp and 263 lbs/ft.
Temp was 75.45F and humidity was 19%,air pressure was fairly high for us at 26.92in-Hg,so it was a good day for dyno'ing.
It made over 250 lbs/ft from 3500 to 4800,peaked for horse power at 5700,but it didn't start to fall off till it was past 6,000.
Got the shift points set at 6200 ,lol
First 4.7 these guys had ever had on the dyno, and they were impressed too.
I felt really good when even the radical BB toys were struggling to get much past 450,lol:smileup:
Thinking it needs a set of 4.10's to replace the 3.55's and maybe a 2800 stall convertor now:doh::LOL:

I'd caution you on the converter. You lose top end pull and that's really what these 4.7L's have going for them. I had a ~2800 rpm stall and it jumped right off the line but I could feel the loss in pull through mid and upper rpms. I was actually running slower 0-60 second times with the converter vs the stock converter. IIRC the stock converter is already a fairly high stall(for oem) at something like 2400rpm stall. I swapped back to stock converter and like it better, it pulls really hard again. I do miss being able to smoke the tires, but oh well.

When my hemi was new it put down 262 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno with weather corrected factor. Now with cam, Vararam and running right off the cut outs, it put down 293 at 6100 rpms and max tq 277rw/ft lbs at 4800 rpms. It's fast enough to beat stock F body Firebirds/Camaros in the eighth mile., without spraying nitrous. So, pretty impressive for a small motor. Wonder how it compares to a new Pentastar V6?

For basically a stock 4.7,it did make my day that's for sure:smileup:
I hung around the dyno for a fair bit of the day, just to see if the portable dyno was reading on the high side, but after watching some pretty healthy cars just barely making 450 at the tires,i thought the dyno might even be on the low side.

I wonder what the Pentstar would do with a tune too.
I know one with 3.21 gears and the 8 speed kicks my rear for the first couple hundred ft,after that i can run him down, but that stump pulling first gear in the 8 speed is tough to beat;).

Forgot to add, there's also a Moroso Catch Can on the truck.
4.7's definitely should have one in my opinion.
I drain mine fairly often, usually twice a oil change, and always get an ounce or more of oil out of it

I don't know how accurate a Diablo Trinity is on 1/4 mile timing, but i had mine out early this morning to play with, and the little truck cranked off 2 back to back 15.94's one at 91.5 mph,the second one at 92mph.
I was figuring i'd be happy if it ran mid 16's,so the pair of 15.94's left me smiling.
That's done at about 3700 ft of altitude too.
If i was to DA correct it,it's probably in the high 14's.
Little truck also rolled up 216 kmh's wide open,or right around 135mph.
Gotta say for 287 cubes, the little motors are impressive when you add a tuner to them

Gonna phone tomorrow and see what it'll cost me to get it dyno tuned now, lol:smileup:

At 1st I was like, whatever, then thinking about how the last F-Body was built 12 years ago, I guess it's possible. \

I've owned 7 Firebirds & Trans Ams now, my latest was a 2002, Ram Air. Stock running 13.2's. After a program, CIA, ported throttle boddy, and a better exhaust I was pulling mid 12's. (12.53) That may not sound that great, but the most impressive part was I was still getting around 28 MPG's... It was great driving my car to the track and driving it home. Not to mention the LS had way more to offer if you wanted to spend money on cam's heads ect.

I will say so far I'm very impressed with the Hemi. Although I have a 4X4 Crewcab, it does have a lot of power, and I'm sure there is lot's more in there wanting to get out.

Did a comparision against my buddies 2012 4X4 QC this afternoon.
Felt pretty good afterwards,lol.
By no stretch did i beat him but it was a lot closer then i thought it'd be.
His truck has 3.92 gears (compared to my 3.55's) /S&B CAI with the extra scoop,a highly polished /knife edged ported throttle body, and a Magnaflow muffler.
Out of the hole to 50mph he could put about 2 lengths on me with his 3.92's,from 50 to 80mph he could only do a length.
I'm chocker block full of fuel, while he's well under a 1/2 tank,so if the fuel levels were swapped, and i was under a 1/2 tank too,i think the 50 to 80 run might be only a fender.
I hated this damn little bugger when i first bought, thought it was a gutless wonder, but now not so much, lol.

I have a 2WD regular cab 4.7 and its a little dull at times. I feel like the power is there but the tranny is preventing it from being unleashed . I was hoping Superchips was going to come out with a tune for the 13' 4.7 but as far as I have found, they don't offer one yet. The only one I have found is the Diablo Trinity. I noticed in the original post that the Diablo was a bit of a headache and was wondering how you liked it so far and if you would recommend one?

Thanks
Brian

Yea i made monthly phone calls to SuperChips, hoping they would come out with something, but the last call i made didn't sound like they had anything planned for the 13 4.7,so i gave up on them and went for the Diablo

Honestly the Trinity just about drove me and the young guys at the local speed shop nuts getting it installed, lol.
It took 10 days and several phone calls to Florida before we finally got it installed and working.
It ended up costing me a couple cases of beer,on top of the price, lol.
I felt guility about the time the local shop put in getting it installed,so i ended taking them some beer on a hot afternoon, lol.
If i was doing it again i'd go with the Intune as it's supposedly a little easier to install.

Now that it's in,i do like it.
I like the 1/4 mile timing feature very much,it's almost addicting, lol.
I haven't been able to get it to read oil pressure though, but that might be because my truck doesn't have the factory gauge.

It did wake the truck up considerably.
I do have a few mods, nothing much but it seemed to bring them together a little better.

Being able to raise the part throttle shifts does make the truck way nicer to drive.
Mine used to short shift itself and fall on it's face unless you were very aggressive with the throttle.
Between bringing the light load/part throttle shifts up a few hundred rpm and upping the throttle boost by 20% it's made a world of differance in drivability.

Trucks almost fun,lol.

It goes on the dyno tomorrow,so i'm hoping we'll find a few more horses.
I'd kill to have another 20 lb-ft under 3,000 rpm.
My little truck pulls like gang busters after 3500,but under that it's seriously lacking in my opinion.

O-ya being able to up the speed limiter doesn't hurt.
I have "V" (149mph) rated tires, and now i'm glad i do,the little truck unravels on the top end alot better then i thought it would, lol:smileup:

Hey do you have pic's of yours,i've never seen a Tradesmen shortbox.

Pic's of mine before the tires were changed, still had the stock SRA's,has 285/60/17's rear and 275/60/17's front now

Rick

Before i forget,i did get my shutdown problems sorted out.
There's a certain sequence you have to follow when you shut the truck off,or the Trinity will keep turning your Evicc on and off and will kill your battery.
I also had to set my "sleep monitering" to 33 seconds (that's what works good on my 13),and when you shut the truck off the Trinity has to be in "Monitering" mode, and when the "Halt Monitering" shows up on the touch screen, you have to hit it.
If you follow that sequence the Trinity shuts down properly,at least on my truck it does

Thanks for the review. It seems as the 13 4.7's have been forgotten about. Not much out there for us to choose from in aftermarket accessories and modifications. But hey I am happy with mine. I purchased it new about a month ago. Its a huge improvement from the 91 Chevy I traded. Its a basic truck but I am going to do as many mods as possible without breaking the bank. I already plasti dipped my wheels and the Ram 1500 logos. Looking to find a tuner and muffler next. I plan on keeping the 3" exhaust and changing the muffler for a little more sound but not an overwhelming drone (been there, done that), lol.

LOL,my truck was the twin to yours when i bought it.
I'm guessing a Canadian ST is the same as the US Tradesmen then.
I had the bumper and grill colour matched to the truck, and bought Kurtis's (Cndoil's) old sport rear bumper, and had it powder coated to the truck.
I did a wheel swap with the dealer for the upgraded 17" rims when i bought my truck.
I also added the Sport hood, which hurt.
By the time i was done the hood set me back close to $2400.00 Canuck
The only options i have on mine are power windows/locks,other then that,it's as basic as they come

Just got back from 5 hours of dyno'ing.
We picked up another 10 horses and 11 lb-ft of torque at the top end,but the biggest gain was through the mid range from 3500 to 5500,where the truck picked up close to 20 lb-ft of torque.
Made a hell'va differance in the passing gear.
The truck was running lean in the mid range, which i sorta figured by it's part throttle drivability,so richening up the mid range also allowed us to give it a little more timing, and what a differance in drivability.
I couldn't keep my boot out of it,i was grinning so much on the way home.
He also dis-abled the back Cat Sensors for me,reset the speedo as it was a touch off.

If your wallet will take a 5 or 600 buck hit,i'd reconmend a dyno tune.
Second best would be to spring for a Hemifever tune.
The canned tune with the Diablo tuner's is pretty good on the 4.7's,but there is a bit more to be gained if you can afford it.

Matt the dyno operator was impressed with the little 4.7.
He does alot of Mustangs, and the 4.7 makes better power then the 2 valve Ford Mod motors do with the same bolt ons.

When all was said and done it turned 251.3 in torque and 244 for horsepower on his Mustang Dyno,a bit lower then it turned on the portable DynoJet Dyno, but a more realistic dyno number,as the Mustang dyno can load the engine quite a bit better then the DynoJet can.

He estimated the truck to be putting out 356 horses at the crank now, compared to the stock 310 horse rating.

All i know is the trucks a hell'va lot more fun to drive now,lol
The $550.00 wallet hit was definitely worth it in my opinion:smileup:

Sharp truck hornet, I've never seen a pic of it. I want those same wheels so damn bad but can't find a set (affordably). I've been looking on craigslist and forums non stop.

At least you got power windows. I got one without, but I am good with it for now. I thought about installing a universal power window kit though. I really like the grill and hood on yours. It really changed the look if it was all black as mine is. I can definitely see doing this to mine once I get a nice set of wheels.

356 hp is nice, that's where I want to be. Bad thing is I am new to tuning and the new era of computerized cars, lol. Do they dyno tune your truck via the Diablo Trinity? Being new to tuners, would the Diablo tuners be something I could install fairly easy? Sorry for all the questions, there just isn't much info on the internet for our 13' 4.7's. I have actually found more info through your posting than anywhere else. So thanks for the tips and advice.

Thanks guys.
It was the cheapest truck i could buy,and pay cash for,lol

Yea you need a Diablo tuner either the Trinity or Intune for the trucks to have the capability of being dyno tuned.
The dyno tuner uses a laptop to write a new tune, that is then installed through your tuner, overwriting the canned tune.
The little truck spun up 130mph on the dyno, which is pretty good for what it is.
It did set me back a good chunk of change for the dyno tune, but now i'm not worried about cooking a piston or set of rings because of lack of fuel and running lean.
Also the smile on my face is worth every penny it cost me,lol

79 if you can track down a factory rear swaybar it's worth it.

I put a Hellwig rear swaybar on mine, and what a differance, but even just adding the factory swaybar apparently does wonders too.
They're still trucks, but the little shortboxes will corner pretty good for a truck with a few add-ons.

Putting a decent sized set of Toyo Proxie tires under mine along with the rear swaybar sure made a differance in it's corner carving abilities.

Rick can you post some more pics of your truck? I'd like to see more of those wheels with some tires other than stock. Why'd you put a different size tire on the rear!?!? Can't rotate now!
