Bought my 2013 1500 13 months ago. Got stuck a couple of weeks ago, put the truck in four wheel drive, turned the trac control off, and hit the gas. After my tires spun a little bit, a message came up on my dash that said 4 WHEEL DRIVE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. and only my back tires will spin. Took it back to the dealership, they hooked it up on the computer and it didnt show anything wrong. Whats Going On???!!!

It's because Ram LIED to us and told us with 2013-2014 Rams that we have 4x4 Lock, we don't. It is an AWD system even in 4x4 lock with the Borg Warner 44-44 transfer case. Once you get stuck, the clutches overheat and 4x4 shuts off. It's a joke.

There is a HUGE thread about this on the other forum.

For the love of God, will people stop perpetuating this s***?! First of all, the BW 44-44 is a transfer case not a differential, so yes it is 4wd not AWD. Second, you may want to look at the schematic because the BW 44-44 engages 4 lock and 4 auto differently.

The time to engage 4wd is before you get stuck, OP were you trying to put it in 4 auto or 4 lock?

I hear you and if you check out the other ram forum there is a 20plus page thread on it.

We have one here in the 4wd section but its only 11 pages. Like this thread, it features a seemingly alarmed poster who doesn't know the difference between 4wd and AWD, feels betrayed by Ram and posts about how we were all lied to. As opposed to seeking factual information on how the system actually functions, so that he and everyone who read it would be able to understand the reasons behind the truck in question's "failure".

Thunder horse, I was actually trying to pull someone out in the snow. I backed up, hooked up, then put it in 4, then turned the traction control off. We were in snow, so I spun tires a little bit, but I defiantly didn't think I spun them long enough to get anything too hot. After about 2 min.s of pulling the message came up on my dash and the 4 wheel drive cut off. Replays and answeres are appreciated. Thanks
