Ok I have to be this months / years winner of the bonehead award. Just came back from a 100 mile trip and as I was backing in driveway noticed the selector was still in 4 wheel low. Made only a few hard turns (before ya ask I did feel it was little tight) but just didn’t register nor see it on the dash. Ran highway speeds and didn’t feel anything while going straight. Truck is 2017 5500 with 33000 miles. What damage can I expect to wake up to tomorrow.

Possible damage In the transfer case and the front differential. It seems strange that you could drive highway speeds and not notice it was in 4 low. Maybe you got lucky and it wasn’t engaged

You did not drive, on the roadways, in 4low. Not possible. Even a blind Nun would notice the Jet engine whine and figure out something was wrong with a max speed of fast crawling.
Far more likely, you hit the 4WD selector when you turned your gear selector knob to Reverse.

How do I know?
Because my sausage thick fingers has done. I noticed it, immediately, as soon as it bound up & got a good laugh.
Imma guessing you're the Bull in the China Shop kinda guy.

Totally agree with gofishn.No way you drove a 100 miles in low range at hiway speeds.The RPM's would be through the roof.A high end stereo couldn't drown out that noise.

As others said you didn't drive at hwy speeds in 4LO, it just wouldn't go that fast. You could have been in 4HI and that would put a strain on differentials and t-case but mostly it's the tires that wear out driving in 4Hi on dry pavement. Unless you were towing heavy, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks....changed both diff fluids and tranny flush this week. Both were scheduled and no damage could be found and fluids looked ok visibly. Didnt opt to send any off for analysis. I have come to the conclusion the selector was in the low 4wd position but, diffs werent engaged in low. Still unsure if there is an electronic override but RPMs were normal at highway speeds. It was definitely in a 4wd mode once I got to a low speed when backing bc that is what finally triggered my one brain cell to check things. There must be some form of built in overide is all i can figure. Asks dealership during fluid changes and well lets just say that went no where. Lol

i would agree...couldnt have been locked in or it would have been screaming. Must have an overide at a certain speed or simply was fully engaged. They strange part was when i came to a stop and put in reverse it definitely was in a 4wd mode.

Generally, for a t-case to engage Low, the transmission needs to be in Neutral and a vehicle stopped. It may have finally shifted to Low when you stopped and shifted to Reverse (which went through a Neutral on gear shifter).
