Hello all, just bought an 11 QC 4x4 with 3.55s and 20's. Just put 6 runs on her at the track, with no mods my truck went 15.24 with only slight wheel spin launching at about 1200 rpm then nailing it.

Since there are mods to come and traction was pretty good that day, I am looking for feedback on launching in 4wd Auto.

I did not want to attempt full throttle launches in 4wd Auto until I got some advice, but with an open rear end, street tires and more power to come it makes sense to research the subject. Thanks for any input you may have. JIM

Try not to load the TC just stomp on it from idle when you load the TC it pulls timming. Also use auto stick it will run much smoother. Just put it in first at the line and as soon as u launch shift it to 2nd then as soon as it shifts to 2nd put it in 3rd and so forth. I bet you will have 14's in the bag doing it this way! Also go ahead and remove your air filter and your tail gate for the track only of course.

Thanks for the reply RAMTEX, tried the launch (hard to find a patch of pavement without snow) and it definitely jumped out harder, I used the manual shift button for my fastest runs at the track this past fall, but was shifting as the tach hit 5300. Shifting early and letting the tranny do its thing was a far easier deal to get the same results. Hope I don't kill the transfer case with the harder launches LOL. Thanks again, JIM

As far as the 1/8 mile is concerned you should be ok running it out in 4x4 but 1/4 wise it may be more beneficial to launch in 4x4 and imediately switch to 2wd once you get out of the whole. It must be done soon or you will be goin faster than 50mph and i cant garrentee bad things wont happen... You will also see a big differrence at the other end of the track as well.

I notice a drop of about 4 tenths when I run in 4wd, the transfer case takes a lot of power to turn the front wheels. It's better to stick to 2wd, drop some air from your tires, and hammer if from line without loading the TC. Only launch in 4wd if a) you run a diesel that has the high torque to turn everything properly b) you have terrible traction issues c) you just want to.

I killed a Tundra on my second attempt in 4WD auto. My first attempt he got the jump on me and I just spun the rear tires. It definitely comes out of the hole quicker in 4WD auto with the 3:55 rear end. I had the auto stick set to 3 and just let it shift on it's own. I did have the SC 91 tune installed at the time. Heres my thread on the kill -> http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=93796 .

Great feedback guys, can't wait until this winter crap dies out, by May I will be moving to within an hour of an 1/8 mile track close to Kingston Ontario ( almost right across from Syracuse NY) and I will put all the advice to the test ! And I do have a kill story actually, I should post it I guess, Thanks All, JIM
