So question, i am not familiar with the rest of the generations, however im sure most of you out there are aware that the second gen 1500 (and im sure the rest of them) have the vacuum disconnect for the 4wd and to engage it. Now if i am mistaken, isnt it a 2 piece shaft?

If so if there something to do to get rid of that crappy system. I know some early Jeep cherokee's had that type of system, and i dont particularly like the possibility of having more crap in a system to make it fail whenever it wants.

So is there a possibility to have it a single axle and it shift into 4wd and it be 4wd and it be 2wd when its in 2wd?

Now i am aware that both wheels would be connected, however it should be an open diff, and im hooked up to a NP231HD, which if my reading is correct the only thing it has over a np231 in a jeep is some beefed up parts. and the jeep xj doesnt have hubs...
