So I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2. My brother just bought a 97 ram with the 5.9. So I thought ill by a van that's close to that for work. Picked it up for 500 bucks not bad with only 167000 kilometers on it. A day later a terrible tick has started when it warms up. And it will come and go. Sounds like a lifter or somthing. Not to sure. Anyone else stumble on this problem.? Almost a knocking sound.

I have 01 ram2500 5.9 and did an engine swap, had a knock that didnt go away after it ran for a few. Not sure how much different valves in ur truck are different from mine but my 360 the valves arent adjustable, just tighten down to specs. Anyways i pulled the valve covers to find that oil wasnt getting through all the push rods, maybe one of yours are bent? once i fixed that i still had a tick/knock. Long story short it was the flexplate was a bit warped and it was rubbing on the oil pan and edge of the block.

Not sure it'll solve your issue but hopefully spark an idea to help you get going.
