6.7 exhaust mod confusion

I have a 2010 2500 Crew with 6.7 and would like to mod the exhaust but I'm unclear on the DPF, CAT, sensors, etc... Last time I did this I had a 2007 5.9. I dropped out the factory system from the turbo back and replaced it with a 4" open....piece of cake.

Can I go turbo back (no DPF and no CAT) with bungs and sensors and be OK or do I have to have a programmer?

If I have to have a programmer, why? Is it to keep from setting a code or is it necessary to prevent damage.

Can I just replace the CAT or DPF without causing a problem?

I know I also need a better CAI but are there other considerations?

You will need a programmer if you remove the DPF and/or CAT. I'm not sure that it would cause damage to your truck but more for the codes. There are some systems that will allow you to keep the DPF and CAT but they are not turbo back systems, just DPF back.
I know its been a while since you posted but I hope this helps.
If your going to do anything to that exhaust that involved removing the cat or DPF you need a programmer. The reason you need a programmer is if you remove the filter those sensors will tell the truck that the exhaust isn't being filtered anymore and the computer will force the truck into limp mode and set off a check engine light.

There are a lot of complete kits to do a DPS/Cat/EGR delete that will turn the new 6.7 into something that resembles the old 5.9. If you remove all this emission crap I don't think you will be harming your engine at all...if anything you will help it. You won't have to worry about clogging up your DPF filter and causing it to clog up your turbo.

The benefits of doing these deletes will net you more power and MPG easy.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I haven't done any mods yet. Waiting for enough extra cash to do it right with a programmer and exhaust kit.
