You may already know, in 2011, the fancy Ram 1500 radios were mostly the RHR 730N, a few came with the RER 730N
The RER 730N came mostly in the 2009 & 2010 Ram 1500s
There is very little difference between the 2

I don't know if you can just change the background color, like the color behind the radio screen

You can change the image itself, from a Ram to almost anything else
you could even take a Selfie & put that pix as a background :)

all the images are stored in the Menu, under My Pictures i think

look at these sites
http://www.driveuconnect.com/system/2011/ramtrucks/ram_1500/touch730rer/
& even better this site
http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/quality/rer/
on this site, under the Downloads section, you will see
Media Center 730N (RER) Manual

Page 67 briefly mentions what you can do with pictures

I believe that i recall someone mentioned that when they updated the software to the newest RER software, they had a background color change, but that may have been on the RHR software

Good Luck

My current radio is the RER 730N in my 2009 Ram 1500

The easiest way to check if you can upgrade your radio is to check the application (software) version.

If the radio has a software version of 20.xx.xx or higher you can upgrade the radio for the newer black screen, You can upgrade to application 50.xx.xx which will give you the black screen, if your application is lower than 20.xx.xx you will be out of luck.

Mygig's had a manufacture change between 2010 and 2011 and the later ones are upgradable, 2011 and higher.

I believe that you will find that ...

RER 730N High Speed Can Bus radios were used in the Ram 1500s from 2009 & 2010 & a few were used in 2011 .... the software edition did not go up much from Version 2.402, it may have updated to 2.406
I don't recall what the Gracenote Version was

RHR 730N High Speed Can Bus radio was used in 2011 & 2012 in the Ram 1500s

some Jeep products & HD Rams of the same years, were usually a year or two behind

I don't think the RER has any kind of update for the background color change. I updated my RBZ and had the color change, the cheap blue color was no more.

When I had the RER put in I went back to the cheap blue screen. What I did was set the display to night time mode and turned the brightness to 10 and its more so a dark blue (looks better than the cheap light blue IMO). I also now just leave the display on full screen nav, so I don't have to see the the cheap colors.
