I have a 318 in my yj. I have to replace the valve cover gaskets asap. I was wondering if i could use the rattle can bedliner as a finish on the outside of the valve covers when i pull them off. The current finish is wearing and not very appealing.

Dunno how much heat that stuff can take. It may not be intended for such high temps. You never did say, how many bolts hold those valve covers on? It'll help determine engine vintage.

In 1991 or 1992 Chrysler corp introduced a silicone ( exterior) and flexible metal( aluminum?) center coated with the silicone valve cover gasket that is the very best choice out there, it is re- usable and extremely heat resistant. Just way above any " cork" type of gasket material we've always been used to. Just heard from a parts guy at a Dodge dealership in Ventura CA that it is only available from Chrysler (or the parts dept.)
Not available through any independent auto parts chain, only through Chrysler / (Dodge).
