Anyone else notice their 8HP70 acting as as engine brake and downshifting when going down hills, or refusing to up shift? I've noticed it at all sorts of speeds, whether 25-35 or 50-60, lay off throttle and it either won't upshift or will downshift to act as a Jake. Just curious as dealer gives the usual "no codes, no TSB, no problem" response, despite fact they put 2 miles on truck (if lucky) which is same distance to McDonalds and back..

Mine does that noticeably when in tow mode.

My 2013 does the same thing. A friend of mine had a 2014 and it was noticeably more aggressive in braking when letting off of the gas. The dealership told him they are programmed that way.

I've noticed it more with my 2017 3.92 than my 2019 DT Etorque 3.21. It'll engine brake on a decline until I add a little throttle ...then it will upshift.

I pulled my "traction" (400lbs of rock) out of bed thinking it had a weight sensor and detected to load.. no affect.. I'll just live with it I guess.. little unnerving have it hit 3K RPM when still cold

Yes, My Truck has been doing since day1. I have 3.92 gears 5.7. And really like it. I live around a bunch of hills so not having to brake as hard and as much is a plus. I just hit over 165K on my truck changed the trans fluid at 134K, the fluid was fine just slightly dark when I changed it and it has been running fine ever since.

Hill descent control?

I've noticed this before on steep hills both ascending and descending. Its not a listed feature on my truck, but it sure acts like that.
Way too many nanny features on my ram.But I’m in for the long run so my mechanic and tuner may be able to disable, part of the reason I have two PCMs.

Interesting thread. I have '22 5.7 with 3.92 and only noticed it the first time I was coming from the mountains towing my travel trailer (I live in Colorado). Having never had such a configuration before I was ignorant that it actually downshifts like this. It seems to be an asset to me at this point, no abnormal behavior, in my opinion at present.

I understand the benefits if it tow/haul mode, that's what's it's been designed for since it was first introduced over 20yrs ago.. a poor mans Jake Brake. Maybe that user who goes by Trans Engineer on here will see it and chime in..

But unloaded not pulling a trailer and only using part throttle? My butt ain't that fat to trigger any weight sensor to think I'm hauling some weight..

then again, I did eat 2 boxes of Girl Scout Samoa cookies other night......
