Hey guy's, the past week about a minute after starting the truck. I've been getting this message on my 8.4an screen. Top of the screen I get a red bar it says "911 vehicle phone", in the middle of the screen it says "vehicle phone needs service". I took it to the dealer they didn't have a clue. They sent for information from Chrysler. The service writer explains that they have to take the radio out and "pack the connections with dialect grease, if that don't work they will replace the radio". They wants me to leave the truck. Can I get your opinions on this??

Mine just did this last night, glad I am not the only one...

I have also been getting a u-connect assist error every time I start my truck for the last two weeks. Kinda like if you push the assist button on the mirror... However, my subscription has run out so I get the "please by u-connect" error. Maybe this is their way of annoying us so we pay for the service. :4-looney:

Well I called uconnect. They said they are getting calls about this issue. They also said the hard drive needs to be updated??? and to take it back to the dealer. So I will ask the dealer to call uconnect to get a better idea of what's going on before they take my dash apart.

Mine started giving me this message before it bit the big one and totally stopped functioning. However, my second 8.4AN randomly displays this message but continues to work fine (although who knows what would happen should I ever need the 911 assist feature).

Edge35, that is exactly my concern. If I need 911 I want it to be there.

maybe try doing a radio reset by getting into the engineering menu, do a factory reset on the unit, then re-load the software. I had to do that to fix another issue I had and it worked flawlessly.

macc08, that sounds like a plan, except I have no idea what you are talking about. I would need a step by step procedure to do it.

From google:

Well I found a way to do a reset on the system...

Hold both the heating and cooling (red up arrow and blue down arrow)buttons for 5 seconds, I have dual climate so I held both drivers and passenger side heating and cooling, for 5 seconds.

Then you will enter the "secret" engineering menu.

You can scroll down and reset to factory settings

the system will reboot, and you have now reset your system.

for the software update, you have to go to the uconnect site, enter your vin to get the latest software version, then follow the steps to download the file. then you just put in on a USB, plug it into the truck, and follow the on screen instructions.

let us know if you need some more help!

Just bought a 14 Ram Express with Uconnect and there was already a recall they had to fix, regarding some wiring component in the stereo. It was handled at the dealership before I took it home. Maybe check for recalls. Not sure if this helps or is related, but thought it might be noteworthy.

no problem. The screen does some funny things while its resetting... don't worry about it though, once it resets, it will be fine!

Updating the software can be tricky, but theres lots of info on how to do it on here.

Best of luck, and again, let us know if you need help!

My 8.4an was resetting periodically and then I started getting intermittent vehicle phone requires service messages. I hit the Assist button, explained the issues I was having, they asked some questions (such as software version), and the put me on hold to transfer the call to a hardware tech. The representative came back on the line a few minutes later and explained that the hardware tech told her that the radio had to be replaced and no need for the call to be transferred. They said to have the dealership contact the Uconnect center and they would authorize the replacement. That was several months ago and the new radio has been fine.
