Hey guys,
So I have a 96' 4x4 Ram 2500. I'm pulling the engine. I bought a 00' 5.9 from a 4x4 Durango as a transplant. I have a few questions. I noticed the valve covers are a little different and a few lines off the intake are different. Do I need to swap intakes? I also noticed the power steering res on the 00' is smaller and has a cooler. Can I keep that one on the engine? Mostly I'm looking for advice on the intake and if I need to swap it out with the 96'. Lastly, I was reading and watched a few videos about moding the keg. Is this mod worth it? Any little tricks or differences would be greatly appreciated. Keep on Wheelin!!!

Both engines are OBD II compliant setups. Aside from a variation in some vacuum lines (which you can sort out without swapping intakes), they're essentially the same. Only issue on sensor swaps would be where the connectors didn't match, then you use the one that matches the truck receiving the swap. The connector issue is a much more common between OBD I ('92-'95)and OBD II ('96 up) swaps, which isn't the case here, but may still crop up as even Mopar does this in long-running productions (a simple way to keep prices higher on replacement parts). The Kegger mod will improve upper rpm breathing, but not much point in doing it unless you're going to upgrade the cam and exhaust. There will be some benefit, but without the other mods, it's just not that much. You could do it now, and make other changes later that'd compliment the mod....wouldn't hurt anything.

Re: Temp switch. One was used as an "on/off" switch for the PCM to let it know the motor had reached a preset temp to switch from open-loop, to closed-loop operation. The other one was simply acting as a transducer. Converting a variable physical action (pressure or temperature), into a variable electrical action. Perfect for gauge use.

Good to know, thanks.

You guys were right. I swapped the 00' intake for the 96' intake because the injector connections are different. I also had to swap a few sensors. I'm going to post a few pics. I do have one question. The pic of the hole on the back of my intake, what is it for? it is threaded. and just to the right (passenger side) of the dist. It looks like it was never hooked up.

EGR valve. In '96 the valve was deleted but they were still using up the existing stock of kegs. You can just ignore it.
