This truck is definately a learning experience. But so far im pretty pleased with it considering its all stock.

I have a couple noises that I would like to deal with asap though.
One sounds like it may be the famous Cat rattle but im not 100% sure. It seems to be at the cats / muffler area and almost sounds like an annoying heat sheild rattle. Is that usually what the cats sound like when they get noisy?

The other noise I noticed today, although its probably the first time I cracked the throttle like I did today. Sitting in park I gave it a quick shot on the throttle and as it was coming back down I got a couple pops through the exhaust, not loud back fires but kind of the annoying sound of a leaky exhaust or lack of a muffler on deceleration.
Could this be related to the rattle that I have?

I havent found any leaks in the exhaust system yet. It does have a very slight miss or vibration at idle in gear that has had me a bit concerned, was thinking maybe a coil pack or possibly egr if my truck is equipped but then wondered if a bad cat could cause it.
Hopefully this all makes sense. And thanks in advance far any and all help.

Sorry for the late response on your thread. I'm not sure, but I think that I might know the sound that you're referring to. My exhaust has a nasty habit of coming loose from the exhaust manifolds (2 bolts/nuts) every six months or so. In fact, just did it today on the driver's side. Loss of back pressure and performance of course. So tomorrow I'll be breaking out some more nylock nuts, lock washers, and locktite to cure it until the next time it decides to break free.
