How would I go about adding the factory electric brake controller to my 2012 Laramie? I have the towing package with the 7pin connector. Just no brake controller.

Although you could technically install the factory brake controller yourself, the computer would still need to be flashed by the dealer. Personally if it were me, I would just have the dealer do the whole thing since they would have to flash it anyway.

No I have not had it done and labor would vary by location. I cannot imagine the labor to be too bad as it does not take very long to install a BC. You might check with your dealer and see what they charge, and don't hesitate to ask for a discount since you bought from them.

We installed our brake controllers here in our shop. Buy the factory unit from dealer, You Do NOT need to have anything "Flashed" It'll work fine, Your truck is set up for it just plug it in (easy job)
On what year model truck? Mine is the '12 and instead of the brake controller its just a random cubby hole in the dash. I'm assuming i'll have to pop that out.

Good to know. Another shining example of being skeptical when a dealer says something, as a dealer indicated to me the install of a OEM BC requires the computer to be flashed.

Some service departments can be a little "Hungrier" than others, Or they may "owe" a tech a little "time" = $ that a un-necessary service may provide. We have a good relationship with our local small town dealer, discounted parts and straight forward answers from service dept. When your truck was built with towing "package" controller would have been compensated for during install of comp and main wiring harness, with or without controller would be determined farther down the line when dash was swung into position. Factory or you, it's built ready to go to work. On another note, look under dash behind area where current block off bezel is, make sure you have two empty plugs hanging there. Trucks without full towing package will only have one, a trailer hitch is not a "towing package" Picker.

My 14 CC sport is at the dealer right now getting this done. Of the 3 dealers I called the one I chose asked for VIN to get true labor cost (at least this is what they said). The 2 others just gave me a quote without asking anything else other than year and part. The dealer I went with said one hour of labor.

I thought of getting the integrated one but just opted getting a 3rd party prodigy for $100 and a $20 cable. It is in reach and not in my way or even noticeable. Is the factory one better?
Not that I would get it at this point mine works great and the less the computer does to me the better. But I was just wondering

JohnV, They probably asked for vin so they could confirm truck was wired for controller in other words full towing package option. Saved you and them time, no fun explaining to truck owner after drive to dealership that truck is not really set up for towing like some people assume.
