Need to add trailer brake control, not interested in aftermarket. Who has added it, what needed to be done and how much was it total? Should have just ordered the truck with it, too late.

I was told by my dealer that the controller isn't available to order separately at this point (for install at the dealer..not talking from the factory).

If anyone knows different, love to know part number and availability myself.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give my dealer a buzz tomorrow and see, what just inquiring to see if it had been done and the cost. I can do it all myself other than the programming

My dealer promised to add one to get the deal done. 3 weeks later they tried to get me to accept an aftermarket one because they couldn't get the OEM one. I said hell no. They're giving me $500 instead. Once it's available I'll get one installed, I was told it could be several months.

My dealer was told to check back in 2 months. Since I don't need it right at the moment, I had them write it in the sales order that they would install at dealer cost.

I know this is the 2019 forum but I had the factory brake controller added to my 2015 about 2 months ago. Part cost was ballpark about $200-$250 and labor was $150 (basically flash the computer). Install time was maybe an hour.

Exact thing happened to me. I paid for it at closing; I'm still waiting for the part.

You can buy the dash controller and module on amazon and then have the dealer flash the sales codes needed for the BCM to recognize it.

82215040AB 2016-2017 RAM 1500,2500,3500, 4500 Trailer Brake Module https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PLFNT5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BvCzBb0EB75F4
I was told that this won't work on a 2019 (they would have installed it if it would have rather than write a check for $500 to me) because the 2019 uses microvolts to signal the brakes activating or some such thing.

My dealer said they aren't available yet and no estimated time just to check back regularly, 300 for install or 120 to program if I install.

I wonder if a 2018 controller and switch would work, the switch area doesn't like much different if any on the dash between 4th and 5th gens?

Just bought my Hemi 1 August, and my dealer is ordering part, and they said should be in by 9 August 2018. Cost was $368.00. Will post back on results...

Your dealer ordered the truck without it, dealers do things like that to make their inventory look cheaper than other dealers inventory. No top of the line truck came standard with trailer brake control. I screwed up and didn't order my truck with it, for the 5 years I had my last truck I never used the trailer brakes but 3 weeks after taking delivery of my 2019 sport I bought a trailer with trailer brakes.

Actually bought truck off of the lot, but even when I bought my 2015 ED, I had to have TT controls put in. Think luck of the pick of trucks on lot whether in there or not. FCA just being cheap on this. But hey, give FCA credit, looks like they R now putting in cabin filters in the 2019's, LMAO

ADDED: Checked build, and this truck comes with: 8-Spd Auto 8HP75 Trans //// HP75 trans, not sure if that is new for 2019, my 2015 had HP70 trans, so do not know what the changes R, or how long the 75 has been out, just posting info...

Cabin filters have been included since late 2016.

Trailer brake control is an option, just like it has always been and is on every other truck

The truck you bought off the lot was ordered by the dealer through Ram. Dealers order trucks with a few less options to make their prices look better than other dealers. FCA isn't being cheap on options, they build the truck how you or the dealer orders it, the more options the more money they make.
