Bought new key fobs off of ebay $25. the dealer said he couldn't get it to program and wants to sell me one of his $160+programming $61. Took key fobs to differnt dealer 25 mi. Away they said something wrong with ignition because of what the truck kept telling the computer when trying to program the new key fobs. Anyone have any issues like this or am I being taken for some money

I suspect it's the fobs you bought more than a money grab from the dealers.
I needed to buy a second fob for my 1500 and got it from here. Took it to my local dealer and they programmed it without an issue.

the FOBs that you purchased were likely programmed to another vehicle at one time & most times a pre programmed FOB chip can't be reprogrammed for a different vehicle

That is why i always suggest that when you buy FOBs from places like eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji, etc.
buy FOB that are sold as new in the package
not ones that use words like
New Never Used
Like New
etc.

even if a person could completely erase the memory on the chip, how would a person format the erased chip to receive new programming, or does it have to be formatted :4-dontknow:

I suggest that you look at IKEYLESS or other places like it
they only sell brand new FOBs & they get them from the same place that Chrysler does & they cost about 50 - 60 % less then at a dealership, but they still have to be programmed to your vehicle
sometimes hardware stores like ACE or certain Locksmiths have the tool to program it, otherwise you have to have the dealership do it

The FOBs most likely were not compatible with your truck despite what the seller claimed.

Please stop posting this misinformation, like was discussed in the other thread about this, the truck leans the FOB, each FOB sends its transmitter identification code (TIC), a rolling code, and a function code (represents the FOB button pushed. The FOB doesn't have the ability to learn the truck nor does the truck transmit.

My wife was mowing the yard and ran over her keys and I had to replace every key.I didn't have time to wait so I just used my key to get it to the dealer and the service dept.sent me to parts to buy the fob then service tried to program it but it wouldn't program. They called me in to let me know what was going on and they couldn't program it to bad for me.I told them not so fast I wanted them to try another fob but parts told them it was the right one for the truck.Long story short they tried to hang me out to dry but I wasn't having it I told them to make parts give them another fob and they finally gave in and did it.I was on the road a little while later I don't know why the first fob didn't work but it didn't.I guess what I'm saying is sometimes even dealer fobs can be flawed.
