Empty truck, no load, ride too firm, every bump (chicagoland) kills.

Can I put in Air Bag helper spring, and remove some leaves from leaf spring to bring back to level ride (stock) then by just filling bags to level and get a softer response to bumps. Then when I load up, just add air??

I have spoken to:
http://store.gaugemagazine.com/94-01dodgeram15002wdrearairbaghelperkit.aspx

and they said the above kit would do it, all I would do is intall kit, and remove some inner leaves. Looking at the truck there is already a part in the location for the air bag, it looks like an overly large bump stop, almost like a small 4 in. dia. black rubber cylinder non-expanding air bag. I will have a better look tomorrow when it's not raining.

That will do what you wanna do. I am getting ready to do the same thing so I sit even lower w/o air and air up to ride at present height. You may do better w/ air bags made to carry a constant load and not helper bags. Most air bags are 2500 or 2600 lb rating, helpers are 2000.
