I recently replaced the stock air cleaner with a 14x3 aftermarket air cleaner. I notice that the stock cleaner had a part in the bottom pan that I believe I've identified as a temperature sensor. Is this necessary to replace in the aftermarket cleaner? I just want to be sure I don't hurt the engine by leaving it out.

If you want better performance, make an extension wire harness and locate as far out as you can. A 180F thermostat will help too. Make sure any holes are perfectly plugged to keep out dirt. Being an 84, you might want to try even a 160f thermostat.
