2006 Dodge ram 1500 Hemi
Sometimes when I start my truck the AC will not kick on.
I checked the Freon level thinking that it may be low but it was not.
It will work going down the highway just fine, however when I stop at a red Light or stop sign it usually cuts off.
Any Ideas what this might be? Its HOT!!!

When I see this issue at work it's generally a faulty compressor

If the fan is still blowing ok, I agree that it sounds like a worn out compressor, that when it is going down the road it spins fast enough to create pressure that is sufficient. But when you are at an idle, the compressor is moving slower and doesn't create enough pressure to work properly. Putting on a set of guages on the high and low ports of the ac lines will confirm wether this is the issue or not.........DanW

Just had a similar issue on my truck. I would turn on the ac, works fine. Then it wouldn't cycle after the first few times. I removed the AC clutch plate. It was rusted 3/4 of the way, and a wear spot the other 1/4. Since rust is a bad conductor of magnetism, I sanded the pulley, and sand-blasted the clutch plate with a Harbor Freight spot-blaster. Problem solved.

Sounds like your condenser fan motor has stopped working, when going down the road air across the coil from movement keeps the AC cool but at a red light your fan not turning and moving air across the condenser make pressure go up and it's probably cutting out
