I am very new to Rams and all the mods. But I recently bought an '04 1500 with an Airaid CAI quickfit with the intake tube. I'm no mechanic but the partially enclosed box doesn't look like all that tight of a fit. When I get on the accelerator there is a high pitch whine coming from it.

Is this just air getting sucked through the cracks in the box? And is there an easy way to enclose it? I've looked through a lot of threads today trying to learn about CAIs and I think I found a DIY to really make it a CAI but I'm not sure about closing the box.

Thanks in advance.

My exhaust is a good loud roar. I know it's aftermarket but unfortunately I'm not sure what. But yes it is a very high pitch whine that I can hear over the exhaust. It's loudest in the 28-32% throttle range; right when I first step on it. Then it will quieten but it's still there.

No I figured I'd keep it. I was more concerned that something was wrong. Now that I know it's supposed to be there I don't mind it haha. I had a mechanic friend look at it and he said that other than adding a supercharger I've got pretty much all the main performance mods I can do.

Well, exhaust, intake and programmer are your basic BOLT-ONS. PLENTY of perf mods that can still be done (cam, converter, gears, heads, etc).

I have noticed a lot of folks on here mention the spacers being an issue. I just don't fully understand why. From what I understand the spacer is supposed to allow more air in right?
A spacer is used primarily on a injection system that happens pre-throttle body. Widely know for the carberatuers, what is does is create a longer atomization runner for the fuel. So when the fuel enters before the TB the charge of fuel and air is not mixed in the best possible way, enter the TB spacer you add more distance to the path of travel as well as increase intake velocity therefore increasing the fuel air atomization and also well as a denser more uniform charge.

When you go to an after TB injection system the fuel is being sprayed with enough pressure that atomization already occurs. So the gain effect with a throttle increases to that of an expensive paper weight. That being said i dont see how it could adversely effect your performance besides that irritating whistle... but in no way will it help you either.

Kamanhart, thank you very much for the explanation. If I actually had rep power I'd give you some because I wasn't expecting such an easy to understand explanation.

I guess I'll see if I can find someone to buy it and if so I'll take it off if not I'll just leave it.
