Hi I am new to these forms and was wondering if i can buy a cheap cold air intake system and just use the piping from it. Then put a new filter on it? Will I receive the same horsepower and MPG just like if I bought a K&N kit?

Brand and model number of good filters people have used would be great!

Nice to meet you all, Zack.

Hey there it's nice to meet you. Check out Spectre cold air kits. I had one on my last truck and the quality was pretty good. The filter was good too. The whole kit was only about 125 dollars, but that was for a Chevy. It might be about the same for a Ram.:wavey:

yes you should be able to get the same amount of hp and mpg with just about anything that you do. yes K&N is going to be better but you can go on to spectre or ebay or anything and get something that is substantially better than something stock

Thats what I have. I paid $149 for it shipped.

The box is a heat shield to keep out the engine heat.

Engine heat equals less dense air which equals less power. Cooler dense air equals less power.

Have you noticed any improvement in power, mpg, sound, etc?

Thanks, Zack
Sound wise.... You can hear it hiss under light throttle and a deep growl under hard acceleration. Fuel economy I didn't notice much of any change, and power wise the throttle response seems better. Power gains are probably right there with the K&N and others alike, but as with those you really wont feel the 5-10hp increase, but more so in driving feel.
