Hey!

I’m European and my boyfriend has a Raptor and a RAM 1500.
I guess I’m more of a Fiat 500 kinda guy (lol), but damn I’m totally obsessed with trucks since I drove his. I literally see people driving them all the time (especially the RAM’s. Ford and definitely Chevy trucks are less popular over here).

So basically I’m buying my very first brand new RAM 1500 soon (which is actually my first car)! I guess I’m going for either a black or granite Laramie, with the 5.7L Hemi engine.

I love the leather steering wheel, the large infotainment system, the rotary gear selector, the giant leather seats, all of the storage compartments, the 115V AC outlet, …
I love everything about that truck!

[TL;DR]
It comes with the Uconnect 8.4 system, if I’m not mistaken.
You can update this using the USB port underneeth the armrest.
Is there anyway they will update this with Apple CarPlay?
Since this USB port can get data from a flash drive to update the infotainment system, I assume it could be used to get data from an iPhone as well, right?

So do you guys think they’ll ever update the infotainment system to work with Apple CarPlay, and wether or not this is even technically possible?

Or would I need to replace the infotainment system for that?

I’m just wondering, because I kinda like Apple CarPlay. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, I’m getting the RAM either way. I just like to know wether or not it’d be able to work in the future.
(wheter or not they’re actually going to release an update to make CarPlay work, even if it’s technically possible, is another story, of course)

Excuse me if my English isn’t perfect, again: I’m European :)

Thank you!! :D

If you are going to factory order your new Ram, the 2018 Rams can be ordered right now
There is a possibility that it may come with Apple Car Play & the Android version of it.

There is a company in Sweden called Customtronix, they make an adapter for the Ram trucks radio, it allows the owner to do many things that are not available from & for the Ram factory radio.
Many owners in the USA & Canada are buying the unit that they make for their particular vehicles year

they are always developing new software for every countries Ram radios

Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately, over here, the 2018 RAM's aren't available just yet... :(
I'm afraid they won't be here until fall or January 2018 (depending on where you get them)...

And thanks! I've definitely seen a lot of trucks with the rear camera hidden in the RAM logo from this company!

I want the truck asap, so I guess it's going to be a 2017 one.
And like I said, the CarPlay thingy really isn't a dealbreaker at all. I was just curious... :)

But I'm definitely gonna check out their website!
Thanks a lot! :D

Yep, 2018 will support carplay and android auto. I don't know if there will be a way to add that ability to the older trucks.

Didn't know you could buy Rams in Belgium

Verify with your dealer by I received a software update that was supposed to enable Apple Car Play or whatever it is called. They hosed us on Android for some reason. They have told me clearly that Android support will NEVER happen. Absurd.

2017 Rams haven't had Apple Carplay added. The last update (my 2017 already had the update when I bought it) added some Siri support, but that's not Carplay.

when I was shopping for a Denali I learned the 2015 did not have carpal but there was a company selling the new modules that you could retrofit into your truck and have the updated factory system with carplay. I suspect once the 2018 ram comes out with it the option will become available to us as well.

I love the carplay in my wife's Q5 and will certainly look into the retrofit next year.

EDIT: as I was saying.....

Can anyone provide an update on the validity of this video? If I understand it correctly, it appears we can get a USB hub for a 2017 Challenger, install it in a 2017 Ram, and Apple CarPlay will work? (Not Siri EyesFree; Apple CarPlay)

Oh no, that is not it at all. You need the entire 2018 system. There are three or four components and it's pricey, like $1800.

That sounds amazing, but I doubt I will pay the ridiculous price. Hmm... maybe I should've gone for the '18...
