New Ram owner here. Wanted to buy the Dodge back-up camera that has video in the rear view mirror. Dealer said I could have installed, took it to service and then was told it's not compatible with the factory radio in my truck. It's just the standard radio with U connect. Anyone had the Dodge camera installed? Wondering if the dealer knows what they're doing...

It came in my truck.but the video plays through the radio screen and not the mirror..but there are a couple of diffrent screen radios offerd and some might not support the back up camera..probly better off going aftermarket.

To have the back up camera, you need a radio that has Navigation, or at least plays movies, Rams use the radio screen for the back up camera

these are the available radios & they are about 50% cheaper than at a dealership

I believe that you need one that states MYGIG, i believe that that limits you to the top 6

You can look at other Rams radios, look for 3 letters on the radios face, lower right hand corner
the 2011 radios are ( N means that it is a Navigation radio & they are the most expensive
RHR 730N
RHB 430N
RBZ 430..... NO Navigation
I believe that the RER 730N will work, they came in the '09 & '10 model

The RES radio is likely what you have, they make 2 kinds, one will work with Uconnect, the other doesn't, both are base model radios

Your other option is to buy a license plate frame camera & the monitor that comes with it, i believe some use a rear view mirror

I guess the interesting thing is that the dealer said Dodge had a rear view mirror system and my owners manaul even shows it. I'm guessing because I have U Connect that is why the one Dodge did try to install would not work as they said that particular one had to connect to the radio. My dealer does not seem to care that they cannot install what they said they could.

I have looked into aftermarket and to get a cheap unit including camera system with install is going to run about $650. Problem is, most of the aftermarket stuff that is reasonably priced is not getting good reviews. Ultimately I wanted the factory system so that it would carry the factory warranty.
