So I have a 2012 Ram 1500 4.7liter with the hitch that comes through the rear bumper so only the ball is exposed.

I want to put on a bicycle rack but everything I find wants to connect to the square part of the more common reciever.
I hope that makes sense.

Is there another receiver that I should use?
Or some kind of adapter?

Do you mean you only have the ball in the hole in the bumper right behind the license plate? If so, you need to install a hitch.

Think you need the receiver that bolts to the tubular rear strut.
