So here is the scoop. I just received the following to bolt onto my 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie Limited:

S&B CAI
Moe's Performance 87mm ported throttle body
Billet Tech catch can

I want to get a tune from Hemifever, but want to replace the exhaust before I get the tune. Where I am really struggling is with the type of exhaust to install. Borla is obviously a fantastic product, but is is also pricey. I have heard promising feedback on several other brands including Gibson and Flowmaster.

I have dual exhaust now and want to keep the same look. I have also heard nightmares about resonance and drone issues with some exhaust systems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dude, I'm ordering the Magnaflow 16869 catback with the 5" tips as well as ARH long tube headers. And I'm also getting a ported 87mm TB.

Do a search here on the hemi performance exhaust forum for : Magnaflow 16869

Tons of good material to be found. I just spent an hr reading it all. Check out Grubrunner's excellent writeup.

Cheers,

I have to agree with RAM357. I spent some time trying to decide which exhaust would be best for what I want and stumbled across Grubrunner's review, as well as several others he has done. Very informative and was able to answer all my questions to help me make to right decision for me.

if you are just looking for more sound just change the muffler. that is what I did. get the one you want, make sure it is single in and dual out cause these are not true duals. had my local muffler shop put it. they had to put a chunk of pipe on the inlet side cause original muffler is sooo long. had it done in about an hour and cost me like 120 bucks plus the cost of your muffler choice. great sound and a great price depending what you are looking for. I left the rear resonators on. with my 08 challenger I had them removed and it had more drone which I don't really mind but I knew the truck would see more work and I wanted a bit less noise around town. still sounds amazing though. I have 150 into ram exhaust and love it. I did get one heck of a deal on the muffler though. good luck with your mods.

Thanks for the reply. Think I will go with the Magnaflow. I noticed that others sold their stock exhausts on other posts. Any ideas on how to get a couple extra bucks for my stock pipes as they have less than 10,000 miles on them.

Anyone know where to get the additional pipe that Grubrunner was talking about late in his thread with the horrid crimps? Is it something my installer can easily fab?

Talk to Andrew (FastnUgly @ BP) here and he'll set you up. I'm getting my system from him, and it will include the Y pipe. No more mashed BS exhaust :)

Definitely Email Bully's for a price!

Secondly I sold my stock cat-back after a few weeks on Kijiji for $150. I asked the guy at the shop to chop it off 4 inches before the stock muffler so the next guy will have something to attach to.

If $$$ are a concern you can always just get a muffler and have your local shop make you new tail pipes. (that's what I did since shipping to northern BC was insane.) If this is something you are considering the muffler that comes in the Magnaflow Kit is 5x11x22 and its part number is 12588.

As MangoTangoMofo said...you can go with the above muffler, however, it will have slightly more volume than the muffler from the catback kit as the muffler is overall smaller...
But I provided my email above.
I can set you up with either package.

Check out my Magnaflow Magnapack setup a few threads down f4om this one in the exhaudt section. Sounds alot deeper now that its broken and and is craxy aggressive in person but so quiet and tame when you want it to be.... but still has that aggressive idle also... its pretty weird to think all that is possible at the same time.... its legit tho!

Ordered the Magnaflow exhaust and Y-pipe. Big question now is do I leave the resonators on or remove them. Awesome price was offered by "Bully Performance, but was able to get Autoanything to price match a clearance special on the web for a little less money.

Y pipe would not go in without significant modifications to the pipes. Routing was not a drop in or even close. Has anyone else seen this?

Yowch!

Can you explain what went down. What remarks did your installer make, and what did he had to do to make it work.

I was thinking it would have been more of a bolt on affair...

Thanks,

So you actually repositioned the Y-Pipe further back in the vehicle behind the crossmember? They were attempting to put it in the same location and there is no way it would fit in the package space.

Var,

I did not end up putting it on during this visit as I was also under the same opinion as you, that is was basically a drop in. The shop I used did a great job installing the bolt on exhaust, but is a general auto service shop who also does exhausts. I will probably look for a shop that specializes in exhaust systems to do the Y-pipe install.

I'd take your laptop to the shop on install day, so they can see the feedback here from Andrew (FastnUgly) and see the photos he provided. It should cut out any communication errors.

By the way, the exhaust looks and sounds awesome. Will get the Y-pipe installed in the next week. Thanks for all of your input! Will try to post some pictures after it is all done. Need to get the truck washed first too with all of the salt and snow here in Michigan.

I just had my 18" Magnaflow installed today that I got from Bully's, sounds great!!!! I also got the Y pipe but I was in a hurry to get to work and the muffler shop tech was struggling with how to put it in. Needless to say I just had them put on the muffler and I'll go to another shop for the Y pipe.... For now it will live in the floor of my backseat.

Went to a custom exhaust and speed shop today to have the Y-pipe installed. The owner builds drag cars and said if I put the Y-pipe in, I will have HP gains, but will lose low end torque. In addition, he said it would cost around $300 to replace the crossover pipe and install the Y-pipe. Am currently on hold on this mod.
