Looking strictly at the Mopar Protection Plan... Maximum Care.

New 2017 RAM 1500 that I just purchased. I put about 20-25K per year on a vehicle... so 5 years 125,000 miles is good for me.

There seems to be quite a few dealers out there that sell it nationwide. Found one that would do $2,000 for the 5/125 $100 deductible.

However... not sure it's really that beneficial to buy just yet, as it can be purchased near the end of the factory warranty and I won't have $2000 tied up for 1 to 1.5 years. Sure it might increase a little in 18-20 months, but I wouldn't think it would be much if any.

Is there any reason I am missing that should cause me to purchase now... and anyone know of a dealer selling it for less?

Thanks!

I’ve always bought the warranty, I worry about the electronics after the 36/36 is up. Also I’ve had two 1500 in the past and both of them I’ve had to have the rear end rebuilt, 4600 buck and thank god I had the extended warranty to pay the bill.

How long do you plan on keeping the truck?
That 5/125 is from day 1 of the life of the truck no matter when you buy it.

My best bet is to wait until I get nearer to the 30,000 mile mark on the truck. Then see how long I have had it (likely about 1.5 years), then I can get a better idea of how much longer I plan to keep it, if I should get a warranty, and if I do I will have a better gauge on the months/miles ratio. In my case it seems to make more sense to wait and purchase it later.

I just bought the Lifetime Warranty with $100 Deductible from Clay Robbins at Zeller Motors for $2835 because I wanted the 12 month payment plan. Don't waste money, just get MaxCare.

How much are the monthly payments if you don't mind my asking BadMonk? Is 12 months the longest they'll go? Did you have to put anything down? Thanks

So Clay sells it for $2745 if your vehicle is under 12 months old and under 12k miles.

If you finance it for 12 months it adds $90 to the price and if you finance it for 18 months it adds $180.

Financing is 0% but you have to put 10% down. Exact payments would just be a simple formula but I just did it so I'm waiting for my packet from FCA to see my exact cost. Should be around $212.63/mo.

I don't think that my dealership was going to charge interest on warranty payments

I had a 2009 Ram, that i bought new
After i had the truck for about 2 years, i overheard a Service Advisor telling a good friend of his about Extended Warranties & how the guy should get one before 36,000 miles

I already had 34,000 miles on my Ram & some times i put close to 1,000 miles a week, ( 3 trips over to Yuma Arizona & back Escorting Mobile Homes after a Fire would do it ).
After hearing that conversation & i hopped in my Ram & drove to the building that the Finance Office is located & bought a Lifetime Extended Maximum Care Warranty.

I was told that i could make payments or single payment

As it turned out, when i bought the Ram, the Finance Officer had slipped in a 5 year Basic Care Warranty, that i didn't recall.

When i went in he Cancelled the 5 year Basic Care Warranty, it still had value
Then he Pro-rated it & that money was put to the new Lifetime Extended Maximum Care Warranty, i just had to pay the price difference.

2015 1500 Express custom ordered.
Delivered May 9, 2015
As of today has 58K + miles on it.

So far I have used the Max Care warranty twice:
#1 Both RamBox Locks and the Wireless Ignition Module (and technically the Passenger Sun Visor for cracked mirror trim after a couple e-mails to Chrysler Customer Care)

#2 the EVIC Buttons & Horn Button in steering wheel.

That probably hasn't saved the 2 grand I payed for the warranty yet, but at less than 3 years old who knows what else could happen.

I bought mine through Zeigler( www.chryslerfactoryplans.com) also.
I remember that as the age/mileage goes up - so will the price but I don't remember by how much.

If you buy your Mopar ESP before 12,000 miles / 12 months, this is when you get the BEST pricing.

After 12mos/12K miles, the price goes up $200 (last I read).

You still have til the manufacturer warranty expires to purchase (price doesn't go up again after the 12/12 penalty). Not saying there could me a manufacturer price increase in the plan.

Some plans will even sell ESP on a vehicle AFTER the manufacturer warranty, BUT, the vehicle must undergo an inspection and each item on the checklist must state "YES/PASS".

Some people complain that WHY buy an ESP before the manufacturer warranty is over (stating overlap in coverage). Getting the best price would be the top reason to buy early.

you're avoiding the 12/12 upcharge, and promo codes might still be active saving you more.

i'm definately taking advantage of the $365 off savings next week.

The promo code is "payinfull" from the Zeigler website.

If I take my truck in for multiple issues and they have to order parts do I get charged the deductible for the initial visit and the visit to install parts? Or just one $100 charge?

They should only charge you the deductible one time so if you go in with multiple issues and they're diagnosed there shouldn't be any extra charges beyond that.

Right but if they don't have parts to fix at the diagnosis do I get charged another $100 when I take it back to have the parts put in?

I am curious because I know it is worded $100 per visit or something similar.

No it's not a separate visit in that regard. One deductible per issue/trip. So it's one deductible if you bring in 5 problems and it takes 1 visit or 5 to fix it.
