I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD. I would like to get it leveled and better shocks. Will the 5100s work for my truck? or what would be a great set of shocks? Whats leveling kit should i go with? thanks.
It depends on what you are looking for out of the shocks. Are you going towing at all? I have not personally used the Bilstiens but have heard great things. The Rancho shocks also have rep for a good towing light duty shock.
I've got Bilstein's all the way around and I'm very happy with them (except the front end squeak which isn't the shocks fault). I went with the ride adjustable's on the front, and on the middle setting and I'm within an inch of dead-level.
Not sure if the 2wd's have front torsion bars...if they do you can give 'em a few turns to get the front end up.
Not certain about older trucks but I know the 2002-2005 trucks had torsion bar suspensions. I am 100% certain of this for 4x4 trucks...only 98% certain on 4x2 trucks, lol...but I don't see why the 4x2 would be any different. They didn't go to the coilover setup until 2006. That means the adjustable 5100s will not work on your truck. There are regular Bilstein heavy duty shocks that would probably be comparable in ride and quality to the 5100s, you just aren't going to get any lift. You will have to utilize the torsion bars to level your truck.
Not sure on the shocks, I guess it comes down to what you use your truck for and the ride quality you are looking for.
As far as leveling out the front you will need to buy spacers for the front coils as the 2wd trucks do not have torsion bars. Top Gun Customz makes a 2.5" kit for your truck.
