Purchased my 2011 Ram 1500 with 5.7L Hemi new in 2010. She is used more for transportation with insignificant cargo weight & has never pulled a load.
Just turned 44k miles & it sounds like i need to work on rear brakes & although the engine runs great, I should be changing the original plugs.
Have a few questions:
1. Is it a good idea to replace pads and rotors on all 4 wheels at the same time? Or, do you think it is likely that the fronts still have a way to go yet? My personal preference is to do all at the same time; however, if I still have a year or more on the fronts, would leave them until later. A friend said that it is unlikely that I need to replace or turn the rotors. On my other vehicles, I've always replaced them. One idea I had was to replace them and then take the originals to the machine shop to be turned for the next job. I only ask the question because I understand some of the newer pads are more forgiving if the rotors aren't perfect(don't squeak).
2. In replacing the plugs, I'm inclined to remove the front tires & liners for easier access. If I replace the front pads/rotors at the same time, I could be killing 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Do you think going in from under the truck works better? I'm 5'8" & usually use a step stool to clean & maintain engine.
3. The pads and rotors seem to be sold in kits: 1 for the rear & 1 for the front. Is there a particular brand you like &, I assume, I would use the same brand for front & rear?
4. What is your favorite 100k mile spark plug for the 2011 5.7L Hemi?
Thanks for your help. Steve
