Purchased my 2011 Ram 1500 with 5.7L Hemi new in 2010. She is used more for transportation with insignificant cargo weight & has never pulled a load.

Just turned 44k miles & it sounds like i need to work on rear brakes & although the engine runs great, I should be changing the original plugs.

Have a few questions:

1. Is it a good idea to replace pads and rotors on all 4 wheels at the same time? Or, do you think it is likely that the fronts still have a way to go yet? My personal preference is to do all at the same time; however, if I still have a year or more on the fronts, would leave them until later. A friend said that it is unlikely that I need to replace or turn the rotors. On my other vehicles, I've always replaced them. One idea I had was to replace them and then take the originals to the machine shop to be turned for the next job. I only ask the question because I understand some of the newer pads are more forgiving if the rotors aren't perfect(don't squeak).

2. In replacing the plugs, I'm inclined to remove the front tires & liners for easier access. If I replace the front pads/rotors at the same time, I could be killing 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Do you think going in from under the truck works better? I'm 5'8" & usually use a step stool to clean & maintain engine.

3. The pads and rotors seem to be sold in kits: 1 for the rear & 1 for the front. Is there a particular brand you like &, I assume, I would use the same brand for front & rear?

4. What is your favorite 100k mile spark plug for the 2011 5.7L Hemi?

Thanks for your help. Steve

Spark Plugs
Original Equipment was
NGK 92174 {#LZFR5C11}
Dual Plug; Gap 0.044"; Actual FCA OE NICKEL plug (30,000 mi/48,000 km interval).

alternative plugs that they began using in the 2014 Ram
I don't know if you have to replace the coils to use them, it might be worth researching
NGK 92145 Laser Iridium
Dual Plug; Gap 0.044"; Recommended FCA IRIDIUM OE extended service part (100,000 mi/160,000 km interval)

At 44,000 miles I am surprised you need to do pads or rotors; I got 75,000 out of mine and I do tow and haul. I'd probably just change the fluid and if they are squeaking you may just need to grease them.

For a 2011 spark plugs are supposed to be done every 30k so you are overdue if they haven't been done already. I just use the NGK nickels and do it every 30k on mine instead of using 100k plugs

Thanks, Thunderhorse!

I agree & I'm easy on brakes. On the way home from the holidays, had a blowout at 85 MPH in New Mexico; pretty scary, but within an hour had the spare on and continued for 1500 miles with no indication of brake noise. However, when I started her after we got home, there was a definite dragging sound from the rear. Perhaps something could have been damaged? I suspect I'll have to pull the tire & inspect.

Is anyone aware of, if it is not pad wear, any other possibilities? I will pull the wheel & inspect before I go to the parts house.

Mine goes through brakes every two years. I swap it all. Only takes an hour.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Great info. Passed through a mountain pass about 30 miles prior to arriving home. After inspecting, have plenty of pad & negligible rotor wear. Appears the sand compound used on the pass road was the culprit. Cleaned the noisy wheel(not the wheel that had the blowout) & the sound is gone & she is braking well. Will let you know if problem is not solved.
