Bright Green light above center console?

Anybody know what this light is for? Whenever I'm driving at night, the cup holder area is always lit up by this bright single bulb, and I refuse to believe that Dodge really thought it was necessary to put a light there. I don't know about you guys, but when I drive at night I like the inside of the car nice and dark. Is there any way to shut this off, or should I just man up and cover it with something?

you could try to remove the overhead console and remove the bulb completely. if it was mine though i would try to replace it with a blue led bulb. but i like the inside of my truck being blue. its captivating in the blue light. its the bug zapper effect.

but yeah if you remove the overhead console you should be able to remove it.
Pretty much what I was thinking. Figured someone might have some insight on its purpose as well, but I guess it's just one of those random pointless upgrades...
I like it. Serves a purpose.

The one in my TL is red and it looks cool
Dodge calls it the ASH TRAY LIGHT

i keep my EVIC lights turned low, just enough to see the gauges

The only fault that i see with the ash tray light, is that it reflects off of something & the green light can be seen in my passenger door window. It is very distracting as i see it out of the corner of my right eye, at first i thought it may be a UFO or a semi trucks fender clearance light. I have had my Ram for 3 years & i drive hundreds of miles at night, returning from different jobs.
Pull the roof console out and then pull the plug on the light. The console is removed by grabbing the whole thing at the end away from the windshield and pulling down hard. It's just a few pressure clips. Seems like more.

Me...

I had the same problem...lots of night driving. A little more research revealed that the reflection in the pass. side glass is NOT coming directly from the light itself, but from the rectangular chrome bezel around the cup holders & gear selector. With a little experimentation, I located the area on the bezel that was causing this and put a small piece of tape there. Reflection is gone and I still have use of the light.
Green is common in aircraft to see by at night, without hurting your night vision. I like it in my RAM. Provides just enough light that my wife can see in the consol without turning on a blinding white light while I'm driving.
I think it's a great idea.
I'm one that likes it really dark in the cabin. I always have my dash lights turned all the way off. Having said that, the little green light doesnt bother me. BUT, how come no one is complaining about the blinding hi-beam indicator!?!?

If it was me, I'd just cover up the ashtray light with a small piece of electrical tape.
I can't see the High Beam indicator light, steering wheel cross bar blocks it the way i sit
i can't even see the Green D, when the Ram is in Drive, just lucky i guess :)

I am not sure about this, but i believe that the GREEN Ash Tray Light, is controlled by the rheostat wheel in the headlight switch
Man, if this is all that bothers us about our new Rams, things must be good.

X2 on that! Doesn't bother me either.
I like it. Hit it with touch up paint. That's an easy kill for the light.
Lol I wish it were brighter! Goldylocks and the 3 rams...
